Welcome to Big Branch Apiary, a 50 acre honey and blueberry farm north of Lake Pontchartrain. We're bounded by the Big Branch Wildlife Reserve to the south and a Rails to Trails bike path on the north. We are 3 miles from Lacombe to the east, 4 miles from Mandeville to the west, about 3 miles from Fountainbleu State Park, and an hour from New Orleans. Most of the farm is a mix of hardwood forest and wetlands. Desert Bayou and East Branch Bayou meander across the property. The farm has deer, foxes, bobcats, owls, fireflies, otters, raccoons, turtles, and, well, about anything common to the wilds of the Gulf South. This includes a litany of snakes, mosquitoes, and deer flies in season. About 8 acres are used to raise poultry, bees and organically farmed blueberries. Overall, the land feels primordial and pristine. We are a designated Monarch Waystation and in the spring and fall see many migrating butterflies. We cultivate a lot of flowers so almost year round you can see butterflies in profusion. We are part of the USDAs Conservation Stewardship Program, concentrating on protecting and increasing habitat for animals and pollinators. Pets are welcome but please leash them. Campfires are allowed except on rare occasions. You can hunt for deadfalls in the woods on the farm, or we can provide firewood for a small fee. Our honey, fresh eggs, and homemade sourdough can be purchased as well. This is a rustic situation: think dry camping, outdoor (heated) shower, and outhouses. We have a tiny treehouse, an A-frame, a glamping tent, and several places to pitch a tent. The farm is pretty secure--someone is on-site most of the time, it's gated, and there are security cameras at access points. But it is a farm in a rural community--you may hear roosters crow, sheep bleat, dogs bark, and the sounds of owls, hawks, coyotes, and other native wildlife. We're a non profit community garden in the Old Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans on the West Bank of the Mississippi River, a 15 minute drive or ferry ride to the French Quarter. We use the money from these bookings to fund the community food access work that we do. While you're here you can enjoy our peaceful and spacious garden property, and we encourage you to get to know some of the fantastic neighbors who use our community fridge and herb garden. Weekend Trip to Big Branch Apiary

Excellent experience camping at the farm. Cheri graciously greeted me at arrival to direct me to my spot. Drove past ducks, sheep, and thru a blueberry field to get to a secluded flat spot with three large oaks and a fire pit ready to burn. Toilets, showers, and a picnic table all available for use. Enjoyed a quiet night looking at the stars before natures alarm clock in the morning (roosters!). Very good experience!

Mark has cultivated a true gem of a space in Algier's Point. I stayed at the tent site for two weeks. It was most days only a 10 minute drive across the bridge for work in the NOLA CBD. I was surrounded by a living garden and it was fantastic. Mark is a lovely human, and it's reflected in his intentional community space. There was also a hot shower and a kitchen I could use. I could not have stumbled upon a better place to be. Thank you, Mark. I'll be back.

Great spot! The garden is beautyfull & peaceful, especially for being so close to everything. The shower was better than a lot of houses I've stayed in, so yay for that. Definitely a great experience. My favorite was hearing the boat horns & a marching band practicing at the coast guard campus nearby. Love being right on the levee/river.... Thnx!

The RV space was premo for my vehicle & gear; there was ample space to pitch a tent and beat the Nola heat. Mark communicated transparently about the space and made accessibility easy. The semi-outdoor bathroom/shower was a nice touch - plenty of hot water with the on demand water heater. Mark & co. were super friendly and gave a lot of insights into the little fabulous cultural tidbits that Nola is full of. Sunday brunch was so much fun! Pelican gardens are such a beautiful forest of food and tropical plants 🌿 this was exactly the greenspace and vibe that I was seeking for camping, all while being a 20 minute walk to the Algiers ferry and close to the French Quarter & downtown. Riding the ferry daily and using the RTA Jazzy pass was a total breeze 🏖

The location is such a wonderful and beautiful place to relax with your family and enjoy good company. The buzzing of bees, birds singing (and roosters crowing) and the quiet bleating of sheep are the only sounds you will hearing while sitting in the shade next to your beautiful canvas tent. Mark's garden oasis in Algiers neighborhood was perfect for our 2 night stay in NOLA. Great spot for our 20' van, nice bathroom with shower! Super friendly folks, Mark and Antoine. Love the family feel, and close to ferry to get easily to tourist areas. Great value and our stay supports the non profit garden project! Love it!!

Weekend Trip to Pelican Gardens

I really enjoyed the site, Algiers is a very quiet neighborhood compared to New Orleans. The ferry comes every 30 mins and is about a 10 min boat ride to downtown. I flew in and took an Uber to the tent site with my gear, the porch area is great to chill on and I met a really nice guy woofing on the property. It’s pretty great!

We had an excellent stay here with our RV. The bathroom was spotless, the shower worked perfectly, and the garden was beautiful. The hosts were incredibly kind and always attentive to our questions. Without a doubt, we highly recommend this place!

Beautiful site ! Very quiet area, nice shower\restroom, flourishing garden. I highly recommend. It's near New Orlean's center : 20 min walk in a cute neighborhood, than take a quick ferry ride that brings you downtown for only 2 dollars !

Gorgeous place with tons of berry bushes and fruit trees - I love how they use every bit of the land, and the sheep were super cute! We stayed in the tree house - it was great! The showers/bathrooms are amazing. And the sourdough bread was too. Would definitely stay again!

Loved this place! I stayed here for three nights while visiting the city. The location is quiet, and the garden adds to the peaceful atmosphere. I felt very safe with the gate locked at night, and the bathroom was spotlessly clean. I highly recommend it!
