If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Harassed by host.
Disappointing and mostly confused. Harassed by Host!
Let me start by saying we enjoyed our stay (left 4 days ago) and we were there for 1 day, two nights. I purchased a bundle of fire wood upon booking (early August) for a reasonable $10. Almost 2 months later, a few days before our trip we received a text from the host that fires will not be allowed. We were disappointed but still excited to go. We were surprised when we arrived in Salida that there was a lot of smoke as they have an ACTIVE firing burning close by in Deckers. Not sure why the host would not tell us about an active fire but we were thankful the smoke didn't bother us. We shrugged and agreed to not make it a big deal or mention it to the host.
Yesterday I requested a refund for the $10 bundle of wood we didn't get the chance to use. I nicely messaged the host through the Hipcamp messaging thanking them for the stay and asking for the refund.
Today, this morning, (4 days after our trip) I received a number of harassing Text messages from the host (seems like an abuse of my personal info provided to book). They were upset because the bedding had dog hair all over it and they had to "wash all of the bedding in the loft area". They became upset when I pointed out that I would hope they wash the bedding after each guest. Most dog owners would agree that dog hair is unavoidable in such a small place, and all we had to clean up with was a broom, some Windex and a mop. I thought we left the cabin in a fine state, at least as clean as we found it. After the harassment concluded about the dog hair the text ended in an ALL CAPS response saying "SEND ME YOUR ADDRESS AND WE WILL MAIL YOU 10 DOLLARS BACK" and "Btw. We had to clean up quite a bit also".
As a host renting your space out I would assume there is always A LITTLE cleanup. We paid $286 for our stay and now the memory/vacation we planned has a sour memory. If you bring your dog that's a shedder to this "dog friendly" cabin, I'd suggest bringing a battery powered vacuum to avoid nasty text messages or your own bedding at least. Wish I would have known they were so strict on the hair so I could have avoided this awful conversation.
A great post holiday getaway for much needed R&R in a private tranquil spot with fabulous views! We even saw meteors! The pups loved running through the meadow- gracious hosts, cozy cabin, nature at its finest- can’t wait to come back!
Will and Nancy’s off-the-grid cabin was a much needed break from the “grind” of everyday life. Our family of four enjoyed quality time together in nature with the comforts of clean bedding, fresh water, flush toilet and cozy shelter. There is so much to experience around Salida we didn’t want to leave the area. Listing exactly as described yet still exceeded expectations. Thank you for sharing your amazing space with us!
Absolutely fabulous a accommodations! Better than expected. Quiet, private and beautiful. Will and Nancy are perfect hosts and did an outstanding job meeting our needs. One of the top places I’ve ever stayed. Perfect getaway.
