Nestled in the mountains north of Mount Crested Butte, Colorado our Wash Gulch hut is in the perfect location for your next backcountry ski or snowboard trip. The backcountry hut is located at a crisp 10,400ft in elevation and is surrounded by rolling slopes, forested ridgelines, exposed couloirs, and high alpine bowls. Crested Butte, CO offers some of the most scenic backcountry skiing & riding in the state and with so many terrain options, the ease and access of the hut makes for the perfect basecamp.

The Gunnison Valley, including the drainages in Crested Butte, is ancestral land of the Tabeguache Ute people. One of the largest of the nomadic bands of the Ute, the Tabeguache tribe hunkered down in the Gunnison Valley for the winter months and used that time to rejuvenate, repair tools and weapons that were used to hunt and gather, and tell stories that were passed down from generation to generation.
*This is a remote backcountry hut. A mandatory 4-mile approach via skis/splitboard with skins, cross-country skis or snowshoes is required. You are responsible for your transportation to and from the hut. You assume all risks of backcountry travel & recreation when booking. This includes carrying all necessary gear and avalanche safety equipment. All guests traveling in winter must carry an avalanche beacon, shovel and probe on their approach.*Having a successful hut trip starts with being comfortable. The Wash Gulch Hut features stress free lodging with the flexibility to meet your group’s needs without cluttering the space. With our whole-hut bookings and thoughtful amenities, we’ve made taking your next hut trip easier.
The Wash Gulch Hut offers 3 bedrooms for you and your crew to make your own. Each bedroom includes complete bedding, and offers ample room for gear storage and drying. The Hut can fit a maximum of 12 people. Here’s the layout of our rooms:
Master Bedroom: (1) queen bed, (1) XL twin over XL twin trundle bed and private deck space
East Bedroom: (1) queen over queen bunk bed, (2) XL twin over XL twin bunk beds
West Bedroom: (1) queen over queen bunk bed, (2) XL twin over XL twin bunk beds
The Wash Gulch Hut offers 4 bathrooms complete with hot & cold running water, storage, flushing toilets, ample towels and toilet paper. There is a bathroom attached to each bedroom and one additional bathroom on the main level of the house. Our showers will be closed for winter to conserve water - thanks for understanding!
No need to worry about trucking all of your backcountry cookware to the Wash Gulch Hut, the kitchen is stocked with all the necessary items and then some! Please plan your meals accordingly and bring your own food to cook your own meals - food service is not provided.
Included: refrigerator & freezer, microwave, range & oven, toaster, cookware, flatware, drinkware, utensils, coolers, outdoor grill, kitchen bar & dining room table, and a robust supply of spices & cooking oils.
