Aguirre Spring Recreation Area and Campground sits at the base of the Organ Mountains' dramatic spires, encircling a section of Chihuahuan Desert habitat. The campground is surrounded by spectacular cliffs and provides scenic views over the Tularosa Basin and White Sands National Park. Native vegetation includes alligator juniper, gray oak, mountain mahogany, and sotol, while seasonal springs and perennial streams contribute to vibrant riparian habitats at the canyon bottoms.
There are 55 individual campsites offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Each site includes a shade shelter, picnic table, grill, and tent pad. Water is not available at the campsites but can be found at the recreation area's entrance near the Camp Host. The facility accommodates RVs up to 23 feet in length, though the access road is narrow and winding, making larger vehicles inadvisable.
Recreation opportunities at the area include two National Recreation Trails: the 6-mile Baylor Pass Trail and the 4-mile Pine Tree Trail, both exploring the stunning landscape of the Organ Mountains. The campground provides quiet nights, dramatic mountain views, and a close connection to the desert ecosystem, making it ideal for hikers, nature lovers, and those seeking a remote camping experience.
Self-service pay stations are distributed throughout the campground for day-use and overnight fees. There are no group camping areas, but group picnic shelters can be reserved separately for day events. Campers should come prepared, as amenities are limited and the terrain is rugged.
