Camp on the shores of Upper Payette Lake, at the Upper Payette Lake Campground! Most sites enjoy some sweet lake views and some have direct lake access. Spruce and pine provide shade, and summertime wildflowers dot the campground, which is set at the base of the Grassy Mountains. Built in the 1940's by the late actor Eugene Pallette as a hideaway from Hollywood and a Refuge from looming world disaster after World War 2. There once was a cannery, a power plant a sawmill and a 5,000 sq' concrete warehouse built to withstand anything and house years of provisions. Many buildings are still standing and utilized.  The past guest list included Cark Gable (Gone with The Wind) Amelia Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan and Errol Flynn and many more. Located on the shores of the Imnaha river we have 2 miles of accessible, private spots. There is a lot of wildlife here and there is no better place to "unwind" and regroup. Pitch your tent in total privacy along the shores of the River and then kick back and take in all the sights and sounds of Nature. Surrounded by canyons on all sides tucked away in a private Valley is 300+ acres of room to roam along the river.   We have firewood and frozen bottles of water for coolers available for an extra charge And have added 3 outhouses. Potable water, picnic tables, and outhouses on site. Pets are welcome. Camp fires are permitted outside of a fire ban. Our guests love staying here: "Camping at the ranch was pure enjoyment. We did not see or hear anything but the rushing river and the surrounding woods. The stars at night we’re amazing and there was plenty to explore on the property and nearby."

Right by the shores of Cascade Lake. Just down the road from Tamarack Resort. Walking distance to the Fishing Bridge and Mountain Meadows Adventure Rentals. You can fish from the bridge, rent a jet-ski and go on the lake, or take an off-road vehicle and ride in the mountains - right from your campsite. There is even a small pond on the property. Some history and geography: Where are the Falls? I wondered that myself when first bought the property. I have asked around and done some research - and come up with two answers, although I can't verify either one. First Answer: The old Tamarack Falls have been covered up by the reservoir. That is, there used to be a waterfall in this vicinity, but now it is covered up by Lake Cascade. Maybe, but I can't find any old photographs showing that, and the reservoir has never gotten low enough to see any falls. In fact, at low level, the upper reaches just look like a meadow with the original channel of the Payette River meandering through. But maybe at the narrows by the Fishing Bridge it is possible there are some submerged falls there. Second Answer: The Falls are still there, but they also are not the classic water falls you might imagine. Instead they are the numerous streams that gush down West Mountain every spring and really never completely dry up, even in a dry autumn. They are quite pretty, but not exactly a roaring mountain waterfall. These streams can be seen everywhere, especially in the spring, and they to tumble down a steep slope. They come right out of the rocky faces of the tamarack forest, so it makes sense to call them Tamarack Falls. They are all over the place. At least two of these streams ( and more in the spring) feed the pond on this property. Hence Tamarack Falls Pond. The pond is "artificial" in the sense that it was created when fill dirt used to build West Mountain Road blocked the stream and created a small pond. The pond stays at a constant level because its outflow is a culvert that runs under West Mountain Road and from there into Lake Cascade. Two main streams feed the pond - one on the northside and one on the southside. The shape of the two little submerged valleys give the pond a lopsided crescent shape with a small peninsula curving out into the middle of the pond's west side.

Enjoy camping and recreational activities at this beautiful property located right on the Weiser River — with dry camping only (for now)! There are two private roadside spots available that can accommodate tent camping and/or trailers. Spot A is slightly larger, while spot B is a bit smaller — but I’ve parked my 35-foot bumper-pull toy hauler trailer on it before, with the toy door open and plenty of room behind it, no issues at all. Campfires are allowed on both sites; however, you must observe and comply with any fire ban periods. Legal hunting and fishing are welcome on the surrounding BLM land! Please follow all hunting and fishing laws and carry the proper licenses and tags with you at all times while participating. 🚫 Firearms: For the safety of all guests, no discharging of firearms is allowed on the property. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Capacity: Parties of up to 10 people per spot are permitted. (If you need more for a reunion or special event, reach out via text and we can discuss options.) 🚗 Parking: Spot B has limited space — more than two cars may cause parking issues. 🌉 River Access: There’s a small tunnel under the access road near Spot B that provides direct access to the river. 🐾 Pets: Well-behaved dogs are always welcome! Camp Last Light is a private, primitive campsite perched high above the Joseph Plains, offering expansive views of some of Idaho County’s most rugged and beautiful country. This is a dry campsite—there is no running water, electricity, restroom, or other developed facilities, so guests should arrive prepared for primitive camping. That said, firewood is provided, and although there is no water at the campsite itself, the camp host lives year-round just three minutes away and can provide a reasonable amount of water upon request. What Camp Last Light lacks in traditional campground amenities, it more than makes up for in views, privacy, convenience, and location. For anyone accustomed to dispersed camping in the Joseph Plains, Camp Last Light is a definite step up: you get the simplicity and seclusion of dispersed camping, but with a designated private campsite, provided firewood, a nearby host, and an exceptional location from which to hunt and explore the surrounding country. For hunters in particular, the location is hard to beat. The campsite offers some of the best glassing in the entire Joseph Plains area, with commanding views across miles of surrounding terrain. You can glass directly from camp, keeping an eye on distant ridges, draws, and timber without ever leaving your chair. The campground sits on 25.85 acres of private, forested land immediately adjacent to approximately 2,308 acres of public land, greatly expanding the hunting and recreational opportunities available directly from camp. Instead of breaking camp or loading up the truck every morning, hunters can use Camp Last Light as their base and head directly into a substantial block of public ground. Camping does not include hunting privileges on the private 25.85 acres itself; however, registered guests may add private-land hunting access for an additional $50 per day. This allows you to hunt the property on which the campground sits, subject to all applicable Idaho hunting seasons, licenses, tags, and regulations. Camp Last Light may not be the cheapest place to pitch a tent in the Joseph Plains—and it isn’t trying to be. What you’re paying for is a location you simply won’t find at the typical dispersed campsite: exceptional views, outstanding glassing, immediate access to thousands of acres of hunting country, the option to hunt private land, and genuine peace and serenity. To our knowledge, there simply isn’t another campsite in the area that offers this combination. Camp Last Light isn’t an RV park or developed campground. It’s something better suited to the Joseph Plains: a private, secluded base camp with incredible views, excellent glassing, firewood waiting for you, thousands of acres of hunting opportunity out the door, and a local host just minutes away if you need a hand.
