The Lookout, The Wheelhouse, The Tugboat, the Tower of Power, the Poop Deck: everyone wants to call this place something silly and unique, but one thing is for sure, this place is a glorious place to sleep.

Built on a large platform creating shade for our solar-power-generating shipping container, Hipcampers walk up a flight of stairs to enjoy 360 views of much of the farm's infrastructure as well as the undeveloped woods. All of the materials this cabin is built from tell a delightful story of creativity and ecological sustainability. This place screams off-grid.

Windows are removed during the summer half of the year, and wall panels fold out of the way to maximize airflow and still guarantee privacy. There is even a small electrical outlet so campers can charge their devices or enjoy a little nighttime reading. There is a super comfortable full sized bed, and additional campers should bring a tent or tarp to sleep on, and bedding to spread out on the flat area just below the platform.

Folks have access to our outdoor shower and composting toilet that are located in a main part of the farm.

We ask campers to please avoid hanging out by the solar panels the cabin looks out onto, as they are fragile and important, and the location is not protected from falls.

We loved staying at the Wondernut farm this summer with my girlfriend Ella. It is a very unique and romantic place and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for some quietness and a different kind of travel experience than the usual hotel/motel. Very easy to drive to Yosemite Valley in about one hour.

We loved staying in the Lookout and at Matt and Eve‘s farm. It is such a lovely and peaceful farm with super kind animals and a great atmosphere. Matt, Eve and Travis are so kind, funny and easy to talk to. They were very helpful and gave great recommendations concerning hikes and things to do around. It is just a great outdoorsy place and everything is built with so much love to detail.
We can recommend it to anyone, who isn’t afraid of a little dirt and being outdoor.
It tends to get really hot during the day (at least in august) but it cools down quite a bit during the night making it all enjoyable.
So just go and stay there!

I can’t say enough good things about this farm. The location is easy to find on the main path. Although we drove an SUV to the location, I would dare to say that a more compact car could easily handle the terrain. Parking directly behind the Lookout made it easy for us to unload our car.

The Lookout (and the rest of the farm in general) felt like a step above glamping. With 360 view of the farm and hillside, the sleeping area was secure, clean and breezy with a comfy bed.

Oddly, there are no mosquitoes at the farm! This farm had everything I needed to be comfortable: a hot shower under the stars with twinkle lights, a non-smelly composting toilet with a panoramic view of the animals and hillside, and much more.

A few steps away from the Lookout, the communal kitchen made cooking a pleasure. There were multiple picnic tables and ample areas to perch, socialize or dine. The kitchen itself was easy to navigate and well-stocked with pantry basics and tasty tap water. We got our own spot in the fridge and pantry (and if you’re nice, the staff might let you sample fresh farm treats - bring a cooler so you can take some home. They accept all methods of payment!)

Watching the staff milk the goats and sheep in the morning was a big highlight. The dogs & animals are SO CUTE!

Matt & the staff were so friendly and willing to answer my many questions about the the farm, the area, local recreation, etc. They seem to really enjoy what they do! We will return.

This is a magical place with extraordinary people. Matt, Eve and Travis share it with their guests their animals and the beautiful landscape. Guests have the chance to interact with the sheep, goats, dogs, and cats on the farm and experience the trust these animals have towards humans as a consequence of the relationship that Eve, Matt and Travis have built with them. The three of them are open, patient and friendly and we learned a lot from them. And yes, the toilet and shower are open towards the hillside and the views are stunning. The West side exit of Yosemite is really close (30 mins by car), so if you are planning to see Yosemite Valley or Tuolumne and Merced grove, you can do this easily from Wondernut farm.

If you are looking for beautiful land, fresh linens and a warm shower with a view - you should stay on Wondernut farm. If you are looking for an inspiring place, with inspiring people - to see what a strong vision and an open heart can build, you must stay at Wondernut farm. We hope to be lucky enough to visit again some time soon.

Overall, we enjoyed our experience. However,
I think we would have enjoyed the farm more if the place was tidied up a bit - it seems they have a lot of old items lying around. We also noticed flammable liquids right below the only exit at the cabin. We would recommend that they are moved to another location... On the positive side, the animals are awesome to visit with, the hosts are nice and informative, and the wifi is great if you still need to keep in touch with the outside world.

We had a lovely stay on the farm. Matt met us after we parked and gave us a tour of the farm and it's amenities. It is a zero waste farm and that was inspirational. The residents of the farm that we met were friendly and welcoming. Lots of sweet farm critters all around. The lookout cabin was simple and clean and had openings on all four sides, which was very welcome on a hot summer night. Will definitely return some day. Nothing like being treated with kindness when you are a guest in a new place.

Staying at Wondernut was a dream! We loved every part of it: learning more about the farming operation, hanging out with the sheep and goat herd, getting licks from the guardian dogs, showering in their beautiful outdoor shower, pooping with a view, and having access to a full outdoor kitchen. Everyone we met on the farm was very kind, always willing to answer our questions about where the utensils were and how the milking worked. We used Wondernut as a base camp for day hikes in Yosemite, which worked great because the farm is only about a 30-40 min drive to the entrance of the park. Sleeping in the Lookout or in a tent at the base of the Lookout will get hot in the morning if staying here during the summer months, so it's best to get to bed early and rise early to beat the heat. All in all, a perfect blend of living outdoors while still with access to great amenities made this one of the most wonderful camping experiences EVER; we can't wait to return when we get the chance.
