The Hideout Saloon is nearby and is great for burgers and cold beer. There is great hiking all around including hiking the private road this camp site is off of, hiking to Eagle Head rock, and hiking the Santa Ysabel East preserve. After these hikes you can grab some apple pie in downtown Santa Ysabel. Dudley’s bakery is also there and has excellent sandwiches, breads, and pastries. If you need any supplies, Dons Market has pretty much everything.

This is a very nice, easily accessible tent site overlooking a rugged canyon with a spectacular sunrise view. Jeff has put a lot of thought and effort into the amenities, including a solar shower. There are some nice hikes in the area but they are all a car ride away. Lots of wildlife to be seen.

Unreal stargazing. Mountain side views. Quiet privacy and jungle sounds. This enjoyable cool, private minimalist stargazing spot had everything we needed for our one-night friends trip.

Jeff is a superb host. He was accessible, quick and detailed in responding to all of our questions.

The best part: the stargazing. All of my friends loved it. We saw a million stars, the center of the milky way, some cool satellites and planets and also a ton of meteors. We took some long expo shots that turned out great!

The site is off a private dirt road - nothing too crazy as our Prius and Audi A4 could easily go to the spot. Parking is on the dirt road on a wider section right next to the camp site.

The forest smells are quite refreshing. There are shrubs, brushes and trees all around the campsite and fires are not allowed in that area. That and the high elevation means that it got very cold at night even in peak summer. Be sure to pack cozy clothing and a sleeping bag. Also pack a lamp and some flashlights because the area gets very dark.

The 250 gallon tank was super useful for water. There was also a table, a camp toilet, a nice lil propane grill and a trash can. Recommend bringing camping chairs.

All in all - this is highly recommend to a prepared camper. I will definitely be going back once I get more equipment. Thanks Jeff!

Another one looking at the center of our galaxyJeff has also set up another lil spot right next to the listing which has even better views of the plains next to Lake Henshaw
