Last minute gem but well worth the find! The host, including the dog, were more than friendly and accommodating. We got lost so ended up arriving after sundown, nerve wrecking but eventually found the location. This spot is perfect for stargazing and bird watching. BACK 40 is a short hike away from your car and spots are spaced so you truly have privacy. I'd suggest you use GOOGLE MAPS because any other mapping app gets you lost! (i.e. Apple maps, Waze). Overall, our small group had a great time relaxing, watching the stars and have plans on returning!!

We loved our stay in the Happy Back 40. It was such a serene setting with tons of space, it truly felt like we had it all to ourselves. This was due to the fact that you have to trek uphill to the site. Personally, I felt this allowed us a more private, and fulfilling camping experience. If you have a lot of gear, I'd take them up on the shuttle service. The fee is small, and totally worth it!

My hammock nestled within the trees. Great view of the sky. Amazing star gazing, saw three shooting stars.

I booked this place last minute as a Hail Mary because it was Memorial Day weekend and all other campsites were booked up. To say the least, this was a great find! The skies were beautiful at night— star gazing is a must! Even the drive to and from the property was amazing during the morning and sunset. I parked behind the green gate as instructed. To get to Back40, you will need to head back out the green gate after parking and hike up the other side of the property for about half a mile or so. I had some trouble finding back40 so I had to ask the hosts— they were very friendly and funny! Their dogs were very cute as well. The hike is actually steeper than you’d expect and rocky so be careful. They offer a “shuttle” service to bring up all your camp gear so you don’t have to struggle. The service is well worth it for those who dont pack so light, have heavy gear or, just too lazy to take multiple trips up and down the property during hot weathers like me haha. I had a lot of fun here and would definitely come back again. A big thank you to the amazing hosts for sharing their beautiful property!

Great spot and pleasantly surprised that we were able to book last minute on a holiday weekend! Friendly, responsive owner. Easy to find and well marked. Bought some yummy eggs. Clean port-a-potty at the base, near the cars. Short “hike” up to the campsite. We were only staying for 2 nights and are pretty fit so we opted to carry our stuff. It worked out great. Secluded with a nice metal grill for log burning.

Very nice and private. There was a short hike up to the site with plenty of spots to set up a tent. The stars were really clear and bright. There was some trash in one of the spots though, but over all was a beautiful campsite.

Everything we could have hoped for. The valley was nice and quiet and had a beautiful view of the stars at night. We had a tough time finding a hiking trail but exploring the area was interesting by itself. The hike up the hill to the campsite might be a little tough if you have a big group that's bringing lots of stuff but it was manageable. The host's directions after confirming the reservation were clear and there wasn't anything we needed to clarify with them. You'll have a very hard time getting cell service, but that was expected. Just make sure you've coordinated everyone before getting there. I would suggest using google maps to get there, our friends using apple maps got lost.
