I loved my stay in the Sage Carpenter bus! Ariana was extremely welcoming and accommodating, the sunsets and sunrises from the bus are unbelievable, and being surrounded by sagebrush was incredibly peaceful. If you’re looking for a relaxing spot that immerses you in nature, you’ll love spending a few nights in the bus.

I am a Field Scout for Hipcamp, which is how I originally found out about the location. I had heard about the artist who worked on the bus, Arianna, because she has also built several adobe buildings on the property. Usually, I travel for photography, but I chose this spot seeking rest. WOW. The desert meets the mountains in a simple and yet entirely complete experience. No detail has been overlooked, from solar chargers to a French press. This is a place that says, "Stay awhile". Come prepared for a minimalistic approach to life that will leave you refreshed. Your phone will have service, but will not be charging overnight. Your food will be generously seasoned with the necessities, salt and pepper. Your hygiene will be maintained, but not manicured. This is a beautiful example of the purpose for hipcamp: people sharing a profound gift with others, a home on sacred land. Book this rare gem immediately, before I tell everyone I know about it.

Beautiful serene, and note: completely exposed spot, no shade. . If you know the Taos Mesa area, this may not be a surprise.
I would also note that the roads should really require a high clearance vehicle. I drive an 09 Outback, and bottomed out driving in. I live in NM and have years of experience driving dirt roads here. My front fender and under skirting suffered damage. I know how to avoid ruts and drive slow. I felt my hosts dismissed my concerns, saying they regularly drive a “high end model” vehicle through there with no issues.

Staying at Sage Carpenter '71 was incredibly peaceful and restorative. The 360 degree sunsets and sunrises + the stars at night are amazing. The amenities are comfortable, and it's nice to experience what off-grid living is like.
The location is great - close to the Rio Grande gorge and the Earthships and an easy drive to Taos or Abiquiu. Thanks so much to Arianna and Alison for all the thoughtful touches!
Note: It was helpful to have a high clearance 4x4 vehicle to navigate the roads to the bus, but it's not 100% necessary.

Such a treat to unplug, laugh alot, cook yummy simple meals, make art, stargaze, sleep in, go for walks with no destination in mind—just wandering, find hot springs, drive to Taos and then hurry back to our quiet sage field! A true recharge. Many thanks Arianna and Alison. Such a special spot. Everything we needed and thanks for the special touches that made camping GLAMPING!! xxoo

Very convenient place to stay for our hike to Wheeler Peak (it took 40 minutes to get to the parking lot from the campsite). The hosts were friendly and very responsive. The bathroom at the sight was very useful.

We loved the openness and gorgeous views of this site. It felt peaceful, private, and safe. The extra touches, like the composting sawdust toilet and large table by the parking area looking out over the Sangre de Cristo Range, make it a really comfortable place to camp. Alison and Arianna's land is so special, and we can't wait to return!

What a special place -- both the land and the bus! We had the good fortune to come during monsoon season, and a rainy evening in the bus, with 360 views, was absolutely magical. Alison and Arianna are doing an amazing job creating a cozy and welcoming space. We couldn't believe how BIG the bus was. It was clean with so many amenities, like candles, hand sanitizer, and teas and coffees. We could've spent much longer there.

Clean, nice, all the basic amenities supplied. Great views at night, can see taos city lights in the distance, but the real treat are the stars that surround the area.

A very peaceful sacred space. There is a lot of thought into the little details and overall energy of this bus and the outside as well. Arianna and Allison are both awesome, great with communication, and super considerate. The bed was soooooo comfy and cozy, I loved the kitchen setup, and seeing humming birds by the front of the bus was amazing. Would definitely stay again! :)

The perfect place to enjoy life slow down surrounded by the sun, the moon, and their unobstructed paths across the sky. Alison and Arianna are gracious hosts, and they’ve created a well organized and cozy space. The Carpenter bus itself is stocked with the necessities to cook, clean and enjoy your time, inside and out. The surrounding area offers multiple pathways towards a fulfilling day. You can ditch the car and walk the area to the Tres Orejas Chöten, and both Taos and the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge are only a short drive away. For those that like to cook, having the propane stove is the perfect opportunity to bring a stocked cooler and leave everything else behind. I cannot say I’ll have many other opportunities to cook inside a ’71 yellow, school bus (submarine) in the desert, and for all those reasons I hope to visit again.

Fantastic stay at Arianna's and Alison's bus. They have very beautifully decorated the space and provide everything you need - potable and non-potable water, dishes, cleaning supplies, stove, lights, small heater, extra blankets, solar shower, etc. They were extremely thoughtful hosts and met me to show me around the bus, give recommendations on the area and checked in throughout the stay to make sure all was okay and if I needed anything. A great place to stay if you want some peace and quiet with gorgeous views and kind people!

It exceeded my every expectation from the welcoming hosts to the serenity of the space to the spectacular sunsets.
Both Arianna and Alison were warm and welcoming as they’ve created a space that you won’t want to leave. From the morning sunlight waking you up through each and every window of the bus to the stunning sunsets viewed from this high desert retreat. You’ll feel totally safe and secluded even with not so nearby neighbors.
I’m counting the days til I get back to this dream of a space that provided me with solitude, security and spectacular views from the ‘Sage’.

The design of the bus is beautiful and functional, it's very spacious and all the windows make for a super special experience. Taos is a short, 25-30 minute drive and you'll cross over the breathtaking Rio Grande Gorge Bridge (make sure to do the West Rim Trail hike!) We experienced all the weather, smoke from wild fires, rain, wind, snow-- it was an ADVENTURE. Make sure you have an all wheel drive vehicle to handle the dirt roads and LOTS of warm clothes-- the bus gets chilly.

I loved waking up here! The views are glorious and the bus is beautifully appointed. Arianna and Alison were super helpful and have great recs for a relaxing, enjoyable time in Taos and other places of interest. It is off the grid and a gorgeous spot to decompress. Lots of good hiking, swimming spots, restaurants, and downtown Taos a quick drive away. Can't wait to find my way back to Taos again soon!

The bus was adorable, clean and well kept. One of a kind off grid experience! Looking at the amazing amounts of stars at night was definitely a highlight of our stay! The hosts were extremely welcoming and accommodating. Made sure we had everything we needed and gave us many great recommendations of places to visit and eat in the area. Only downfall: We didn’t expect the area to have so many run down, junk collecting properties nearby, but overall we felt safe and enjoyed our trip.

Our stay on Sage Carpenter was magical and just what we needed. Al and Arianna have outdone themselves with their attention to detail. The views from the bus, especially at sundown, are hard to articulate and took our breath away each and every day, not to mention the shooting stars streaking across the Milky Way. I could go on and on really... the outside shower was exhilarating each morning amidst the breeze, the fire at the end of a long day, our hosts gracious and lovely nature. It was like a dream and I’m counting the days until we can return.

Arianna prepared a lovely glamping home for us. 360 degree views from the bus. We enjoyed the comfy bed and well-appointed kitchen space with a terrific propane stove. She is a warm and helpful host. Perfect solution for camping during monsoon season. Close to Taos attractions, but we also hiked to the nearby Buddhist stupa from property.
