Simply good camping with campfires allowed near Colwyn Bay

Pentre Du Camping Club can be found in North Wales, just a couple of miles inland of Colwyn Bay. And those couple of miles make a real difference. While you may not have views of the sea from your pitch, you’ll have far reaching ones of rolling countryside. This is a peaceful place, away from the hustle and bustle of the seaside in summer but close enough to visit. It also offers a very much more organic kind of camping than the holiday parks on parts of the coast. Here, it’s tents and campervans only in a field on a farm where you have plenty of space and a campfire at every pitch.

The camping itself is simple stuff and, if that’s how you think camping should be, you’ll love it here. Your pitch fee gives you a spot in a grassy meadow that’s surrounded by hedgerows and trees and blessed with beautiful views. You’ll have access to toilets, showers, and washing up sinks, which are all provided in modern-rustic cubicles and kept immaculately clean. And, apart from lovely hosts who’ll do whatever they can to make your stay as enjoyable as can be, that’s about it. There’s no WiFi, no electricity, no clubhouse – and, according to the rules, no noise after 10pm.

You are also getting a great base from which to explore this part of the world. There are footpaths straight from the farm – including a great route up a nearby peak from where you can see the sun go down over the sea – and there’s more good walking nearby. Try the North Wales Path, which passes close by or head towards the sea to join the Wales Coast Path. And whether you’re walking or not we’ll wager you’ll be headed that way anyway. The only question is – which beach will you choose: Colwyn Bay, Rhos on Sea, or Llandudno? All are within easy reach.

Pentre Du Camping Club based in north wales was created by and for individuals who are passionate about common interest. Stargazing ,birdwatching and hiking are just some of the activities we have here to offer. Our spacious pitches are set in a grassy meadow surrounded by hills trees and fields. Back to basics but well thought out and well looked after. The owners Steve and Sue always provide a warm welcome and are more than happy to assist with any help required.Parking is available next to your tent however in wet weather cars must be parked on near by car park. Bring an awning 1 included, 1 max Bring gazebo 1 included, 1 maxBring pup tent 1 included. Pitches are for tents only. No roof top tens, campervans or motorhomes homes.

Great place
Sue’s land was a lovely place to camp & so close to so many places. The facilities were cleaned throughout the day ensuring they were always kept clean. You could hire out logs for the personal log fires the only things which I struggled with at the site was having to leave my car at the car park and carry my stuff to the pitch using a wheel barrow provided. I found it hide as I was alone with a small child and dog others might not struggle.

Okay for a cheap one nigh
We stayed two nights, the campsite owner was lovely although we only really met her on checking in. We did see someone else coming around regularly on a quad to empty bins etc. Generally the campsite was well kept with two washing up sinks, two male and two female toilets, and three showers, all lit at night. Campfires also allowed and marked with stones at each pitch although we didn’t use this due to inclement weather. The main issues were around access to freezer/fridge/charging facilities, I would say this site is completely off grid and is the only one we have been to with none of these facilities at all and we have realised that this doesn’t suit us. The other significant issue was lack of identified pitches, other than the fire pits, which we were told to pitch behind one, there was no other guidance. We brought our small dome tent (our mistake as in the rain there was no shelter to cook/sit etc) and came back from a day out to find another party had pitched two tents and parked their car side by side on a single pitch. This resulted in their tent guys almost crossing ours. To add to this they had a visitor at 3am in a car with them talking between the tents, clanging pots and opening car doors etc for a good 30 minutes, despite the no noise after 10pm rule. There was very little oversight of this from the owners, probably as the field was some way away from the house. Unfortunately due to this we would be very unlikely to return.

Great site and great hosts x
Amazing hosts, very welcoming. Beautiful views from the site and a lovely walk to the cliff top. The facilities were very clean, very useful having the campfire facility. Best location is on the field by toilets and showers, it’s more of a wind breaker. Highly recommend x

From the host
Pentre Du Farm is on the rural side of Llysfaen just a short drive to the coast. Hiking, Cycling, Watersports, Visiting Sea Side Towns, Careering down Zipwires, visiting Historic Castles, surf Snowdonia and Snowdon mountain are just some of the things our guests get up to. For those guests looking for a more relaxed break you can sit back listen to the birds or take a casual walk along several footpaths direct from the site. Evenings here have a very chilled out atmosphere with noise kept to a minimum. Each pitch has its own spot for a campfire perfect for enjoying often starry skies. Please note. Parking is available next to pitch however in wet weather conditions campers will be asked to park in the near by parking area. All pitches have a fire pit. Logs must be purchased at farm reception at £12 per basket.
Nearby attractions

There are walks straight from the site into the surrounding countryside including the hike up local mountain, Mynydd Marian which is a nature reserve. Pentre Du Farm is four miles from Colwyn Bay, a classic seaside resort on the North Welsh Coast with miles of golden sand, a pier and all the fun of the fair. At Porth Eiras beach you can hire paddleboards too. The outskirts of town are also home to the North Welsh Mountain Zoo. Just a little further along the coast is quieter Rhos on Sea which also has plenty of facilities and a sand and shingle beach. Further still (but only 10 miles from the campsite) is Llandudno, another Victorian seaside resort, with everything you’d expect from it – as well as a lovely walk onto the Great Orme headland. Options for days out that aren’t on the beach include the National Trust’s Bodnant Gardens and Conwy Castle (both around 10 miles) and just further than that is the edge of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park and all the adventures within: climbing, hiking, mountain biking, whitewater rafting – and some of the world’s most-exhilarating zip lines at Zip World.

Food and drink

Pentre Du Farm is on the edge of Llysfaen, a village on the edge of Colwyn Bay where there’s a Chinese restaurant and The Conwy Brewery Tap Room. For more than that – head into Colwyn Bay where there are plenty of options for eating out and lots of places to pick up supplies for cooking back at the campsite, including supermarkets. For a really special meal out, consider booking a table at Bryn William’s Porth Eirias Bistro.
