Romantic, two-person cabins with hot tubs in Northumberland

Woodland Chase Glamping is both a luxurious getaway for guests and a labour of love from its hosts. Two high-end, handcrafted cabins sit on the grounds of a Northumberland family farm. Every detail is finished to perfection. Think wood-fired hot tubs, welcome hampers, and Egyptian linens on sizable beds. This is a glampsite with all the essentials and then some.

The Campbell family has had a hand in every element of their glampsite’s design, from small details, such as choosing the light fittings, to making sure the cabins complement the farmland they sit within. Based on the wooded grounds of the family’s Old Felton Farm, both cabins are a homage to their surroundings, created using plenty of timber and upcycled materials gathered from the land.

The Crofter’s Cabin is the site’s dog-friendly offering – stylish accommodation sitting pretty behind a picketed fence, overlooking a chestnut tree that serves as its garden's focal point. Your pup can roam freely in the garden while you relax on the veranda or go for a dip in the hot tub. Inside, the cabin makes attractive use of reclaimed wood for its well-equipped kitchen space, and you can curl up in front of the wood-burning stove on chilly evenings.

The Saddler's Cabin proudly displays the Campbell's love of horses, exemplified by the charming touches scattered throughout – horseshoes on which to hang your keys, and a saddle displayed on the living room wall. The four-poster bed is a highlight, with vines serving as its canopy and hanging lights making it the perfect backdrop for a romantic retreat.

The thoughtful touches continue in the welcome hamper, filled with essentials and goodies to enjoy during your stay, from locally sourced eggs to chocolate. Prosecco awaits in the fridge, too, while marshmallows are provided to toast on your fire pit. If you can pull yourself away from your cabin, then surfing haven Bamburgh Beach is a drive away, and the Harry Potter filming location Alnwick Castle is also nearby.

Inspired by the need to diversify our farming business, Jill had an idea to create a truly luxurious glamping site. Woodland Chase has received a grant under the LEADER assistance scheme to help support and develop this project. The whole family have played a part in making Woodland Chase what it is today, from choosing which lighting fixtures to fit above the breakfast bar in the Treehouse to designing our logo. Building spaces that complement the surrounding area was always a priority of ours. Therefore, our Treehouse and Cabins have been built using as many reclaimed materials as possible. We feel very lucky to be able to call Northumberland home and between us, we have a wealth of local knowledge. Should there be something you’re particularly interested in, feel free to drop us a line.
Nearby attractions

Alnwick Castle is a 10-minute drive away from Woodland Chase, an 11th-century stronghold that famously became Hogwarts for the Harry Potter movies. The castle's gardens are a must-visit, featuring a tour of the 'Poison Garden', so-called because it features some of the most poisonous plants in the world. Bamburgh Castle Beach is a 30-minute drive away, towered over by its titular castle, which serves as a unique backdrop for its sandy shores. Boasting good waves, surf hire and lessons are available here. Cragside – 'Britain's original smart home' – is a 10-minute drive, and if you've brought your dog this is a great place for walkies. This Victorian country house is filled with gadgets and inventions that made it well ahead of its time, and is surrounded by a Formal Garden with views over the Coquet Valley.

Food and drink

The Cook and Barker Inn is only a five-minute drive along the A1, a traditional country inn that has been modernised but still retains elements of the blacksmith's forge that used to neighbour it. Booking is advised here (01665 575234) as it's well-known locally as an excellent place for something to eat; the three-course Sunday Lunch menu has some unique additions, from Bouillabaisse to local crab and lobster bisque. The Northumberland Arms is on the other side of the A1, a 19th-century restored stone pub with a range of beers from local breweries. Its restaurant serves a range of pub classics, light bites, and Sunday lunch, and there's even a 'doggie menu' if you wish to bring the pooch.
