A sociable, bohemian, camping and glamping site with brand new facilities and a comfortable clubhouse space

“A boho glamping ground.” That’s how the Such family describe their four-acre paddock on the Leicestershire-Warwickshire border. In fact it’s far more than that. 15 spacious, grass tent pitches, each bordered by a string of atmospheric Edison bulbs, mean that campers are welcome here too. And there are hard-standings and electric points for quirky campervans. And as for 'bohemian'? Well, it certainly fits the bill. Think dream catchers for sale, peacocks strutting their stuff next door and Moroccan rugs cast across the floor of a pink-and-purple-painted clubhouse. Above all else, though, Ettie’s Field is cool. Pure and simple.

At the end of a 200-metre driveway, Ettie’s Field opened in 2018 and occupies a long, hedge-lined meadow, fronted by a newly built clubhouse. This alone is a genius idea. Open until half ten each night, the clubhouse creates a sociable, chilled out focal point, with a paved terrace and huge, floor-to-ceiling glass doors that slide right back to reveal the hammock chairs and sofas inside. Alongside it, four fancy log pods each contain a private shower room with a shower, basin, toilet and changing space, providing the user with utter privacy. Beyond, meanwhile, the green space of the campsite extends.

Closest to the facilities are the two shiny Airstream trailers available for glampers to rent. Inside they have everything a couple could need – think modern, compact kitchen, en-suite bathroom, double bed and television. Next in the paddock, a handful of hardstandings welcome campervans and caravans too (quirky designs and vintage vans only; naturally). Finally, at the far end of the meadow, are the grass camping pitches themselves, which also have their own composting toilet nearby if you can’t be bothered with the 100-metre stroll to the main loos. Bell tents, tipis, canvas castles and home-made tents are all thoroughly encouraged. The quirkier the better here.

While the clubhouse, the campfires and the company of alpacas and donkeys over the fence make for reasons to stay at the campsite, there’s plenty to do nearby. Don’t be fooled by the quiet and the countryside views – it’s only a mile to the A444, which acts as an artery to the outside world. There’s a good pub (The Cock Inn) just beyond the junction and a handful of top attractions within a 10-minute drive. Visit the monkeys at Twycross Zoo, build your own raft at Bosworth Water Park or take a guided tour of the 15th-century battleground that saw the end of the Wars of the Roses and the start of Britain’s Tudor era.

Grass Pitch EHU - for small tourers & tents.
Beautiful Site!
Easy book in, easy check in to this gorgeous campsite! It’s our second visit this year as we quickly fell in love with the site when we visited over the August Bank Holiday’22. Pitches are large with lovey wildflower borders and pretty lights separating each one. There’s a chiminea on each pitch for guests to use and seasoned wood available in the very chic boutique shop. It’s such a peaceful campsite so you can easily relax and get a good night’s sleep. The showers and toilets are absolutely 5 star in comparison to even really good facilities on other sites. At the entrance to Ettie’s is the beautiful Peacock Garden which is a haven for nature having been thoughtfully planted and laid out. The resident animals, including peacocks, are definitely worth popping to see and saying hello to. We didn’t get to visit Flours café on site but looks a lovely spot for a treat and coffee. We could only stay for two nights, and wished it could have been longer, but we’ll most definitely be back!

Grass Pitch - for small tourers & tents.
Don't come here! (It's awesome!)
I think this is (by significant margin), the best camp site I've stayed in. The showers and toilets are beyond nice. They smell fantastic and manage to capture both "hippy rustic chic" and modern at the same time. The venue could probably accommodate 50 or 60 pitches, but instead, there are 20, each bordered by wild grasses. The location is secluded and feels special... But this does give my one small downvote... The seclusion means that there is no pub or restaurant within walking distance. There are firepits in each pitch and a few sheltered eating areas around. There is a shop and cafe, which is a real gem and we enjoyed coffee and crumpets for breakfast. So... Please don't go to this camp site... It would be nice if it was kept for those of us in the know.

Camping with a difference
Etties Field is a brilliant, quirky site and we would highly recommend it. The staff are lovely in the cafe and shop. We were camped (in our campervan with awning attached) on pitch 20 in the top circle. We didn't need electric. The whole site has been really well designed, with wooden huts for toilets, washbasin and shower. There were four of us staying mid-week and no problem with availability for the amenities- not sure if that would be the case at a weekend though. The wildflowers separating the pitches are beautiful, and the lights in the evening so pretty. We saw rabbits hopping around in the quiet of the evening. We will most definitely be back!

From the host
We named our Airstream Ettie after my Grandma, when we bought Ettie we put her in the field and called it "Ettie's Field" so when we were thinking of a name and we went through a few!! It dawned on us that we had already named it!! Ettie's Field!! Ettie's Field is for everyone who loves camping and touring in a beautiful space. All vehicles are welcome including ..Airstream, VanLife, Bongo, Glawnings, Teardrop, t@b, Vdubs, Bikers, Classic Hymer, Eriba Touring, Bell or Lotus Tent, Tipis, Roof tents, Converted Ambulances, Caravans, tents. Ettie's Field is different!!! Ettie's Field is suitable for all vehicles and tents. We welcome children at Ettie's Field but we have not designed the site around children, we do not have a playground or allow any type of ball, frisbee games or kite flying on Ettie's Field, if those are a must maybe Ettie's Field isn't suitable. Ettie's Field is a Boho Camping Ground in the Heart of England. We have 8 hardstanding pitches with electric and water tap, 8 grass pitches with electric and water tap & 3 grass pitches, no electric but water close by and 6 circle pitches with electric & water these are great for group bookings and custom rigs, these are situated at the top of the field and are the closest to the amenities. We have individual shower rooms with toilet and wash basins and a male and female loo at the bottom of the field. Elsan and dish washing is at the top of the field near the shower rooms.
Nearby attractions

Though it feels quiet and remote, Ettie's Field's proximity to the A444 and A5 means you have immediate access to a whole host of the Midlands' top attractions. It takes less than 10 minutes to drive to Twycross Zoo (0844 474 1777), Market Bosworth (good farmers' market on the fourth Sunday of every month) and the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre (01455 290429). The latter commemorates the Battle of Bosworth in 1485, the last battle of the War of the Roses, in which Richard III was killed and Henry Tudor became king to start the Tudor dynasty. Interactive displays and a modern make-over give the place real family appeal. For watersports fans, rent sailing boats and canoes at Bosworth Water Park (01455 291876; 10 minutes' drive) or stay on dry land and go llama trekking at Lucky Tails Alpaca Farm (01827 820810) 15 minutes away. It's also a 20-minute drive to Drayton Manor Theme Park (01827 287979).

Food and drink

It takes all of about 15 minutes to walk down the lane to the somewhat dated Gate Inn (01827 715701)  Legend has it that famous, 18th-century highwayman Dick Turpin used to hide in the cellar  with his horse at Turpins Bar and Grill (01827 880111), a short drive away in Twycross that has taken his name. If you're looking for something special, San Giovanni (01827 881000) in Sheepy Magna is a plush and modern restaurant with designer touches and an excellent, raised terrace open in summer overlooking Sheepy Lake.
