Quirky glamping accommodation with mod cons, near coast, castles and the history of 1066.

For a thoroughly unique retreat in East Sussex, Glamp in Style opens the doors of its characterful horsebox and vintage bus to guests. On a working farm within a peaceful 300 acres of countryside, close to the historic town of Battle, these quirky conversions make for eye-catching accommodation. The eminently Instagrammable duo have been stylishly renovated by masterful host, Dean, and equipped with exciting additions such as an ‘al fresco’ bath and an outdoor projector for movie nights. It's a place worthy of the big screen itself.

Dean isn't just a master renovator of old vehicles. His friendliness as a host has also become a selling point in and of itself and he's happy to go the extra mile for guests. Glamp in Style has become a place for visitors to celebrate special occasions, with Dean prepping the accommodation for birthdays, anniversaries, or romantic weekends away before guests arrive. For those larger family outings, both the horsebox and the vintage bus can be pulled together – otherwise, they sit apart in the well-maintained grass, which the farm’s handsome highland cows occasionally graze.

Tucked between the horsebox and the trees is an outdoor bath, the perfect spot to relax before drying off and hanging out in the hammock after. Inside the horsebox you’ll be surprised at the amount of space you have – enough to fit in a kitchen and a shower room, along with your beds. You’ll also be able to sit out at night on the decking, with a firepit and barbecue provided. The smaller of the two options, the vintage bus, also boasts cooking facilities and a firepit, your beds, and an indoor hammock to laze in, while both are hooked up with 12v power and lighting.

For adventures beyond the site, a woodland walk will guide you to a wonderful local café and pub, or further to the village of Battle (the site of the Battle of Hastings, now with its famous abbey and 1066 museum). Or, if you’re in the mood for some sun, sea, and sand, then, within a 30-minute drive, you can reach three popular local beaches, including Hastings.

Glamp in Style has unique accommodation set deep in the ancient East Sussex countryside away from roads and houses. Stay in our unique horsebox and enjoy the tranquillity of birdsong, nature and far reaching views. Our horsebox is equipped with a kitchen with full size cooker and undercounter fridge that has been converted to run from the 12v power served by 800w solar system. Also on board, you will find Wifi, a projector (requires laptop with HDMI), bluetooth sound system, hot shower and separate wash hand basin. There are side patio doors from the lounge leading to the decking area which faces east for sunrise. There is also a rear separate bedroom with three solid bunks and a rear facing barn door. This rear area can be converted to a fully functioning office with a desk and a monitor for the perfect combination of homeworking in nature. Our GSM Wifi is good for home working or social media. Outside (aside from acres of grazing land and woodland), you will find a decking platform to the other side which offers shade from the canopy of trees. Also a chill out area with a hammock which is ideal for those lazy hours. A fire pit and BBQ are provided for your use. There are footpaths connecting the fields with woodland. Netherfield is a short walk where you will find a wonderful licensed café (with great veggie options if required) and grocery store, or if you want to stretch your legs, you can walk to our nearby town of historic Battle Further afield are great historic landmarks, castles, towns and villages. Beaches are also in easy reach. We also have other vehicles to rent such as our vintage bus (please see other listing) - the vehicles can be put together to increase group size.
Food and drink

Netherfield Village Shop is a 15-minute walk across the fields; an independent grocer, shop, and cafe that also serves as a much-appreciated social hub for its local community. Its homemade menu includes a full English to set you up for the morning, along with a variety of popular toasties, sandwiches, and cakes. The White Hart pub is close to this cafe, too, a quaint local with an open fireplace, boasting a large outdoor seating area that provides amazing views over the Vale of Ashburnham. The Squirrel Inn is a very popular local countryside pub, a 5-minute drive away with an al fresco dining area and serving ale sourced from the local Battle Brewery. If you drive past the sign reading: ‘You have just passed a great pub’, you’ve gone too far!

Nearby attractions

The town of Battle is a 45-minute walk or brief drive away. To learn about its history, go to the Battle Abbey and Battlefield, named after the Battle of Hastings – this is “1066 country”, after all – where you can take a guided tour around this picturesque place of great historical significance. The kids will be kept occupied, too, with a natural play area and a kids' trail available. Hastings beach is a 15-minute drive away, a pebble beach with a bunch of local restaurants and shops located nearby, along with the Hastings Pier – a renovated dock with an observatory platform and a beer garden at its tail.
