    The South Downs Way passes the campsite’s front door on its way to Beachy Head and Eastbourne. Alfriston (4 miles) – a beautiful, ancient village containing St Andrew’s Church, ‘the Cathedral of the South Downs’, and the Clergy House, the National Trust’s first ever property; 01323 870001; NT site.

    Food and drink

    The Golden Galleon (free house), Exceat Bridge (¾ mile); a busy pub with a large beer garden; 01323 892247. Slightly further afield, but well worth the effort to get to (you can walk on footpaths most of the way) is the ancient lowbeamed Tiger Inn (Beachy Head brewery), East Dean (3 miles); 01323 423209.
