Enviably plotted on the banks of the languorous River Ouse, the Caravan and Camping Club's St Neots site is a delightful spot made for summertime camping with the kids.
As with all C&C-run sites, one expects a certain standard of service. And the St Neot's site does 'the friendly club' proud with its amiable and dilligent staff, high standards of cleanliness and all round air of inclusiveness.
Sure, there's a certain uniformity to the place, but it's these reassuring touches that make for a hassle-free holiday—particularly for camping novices.
The surrounding area has a great range of activities (be it cycling or walking beside the river) and day-trips further afield (such as the university town of Cambridge). This stretch of Cambridgeshire/Bedfordshire hinterland is one of England's loveliest yet overlooked stretches of countryside with lush meadows, beautiful lakes (such as Hitchingbrooke Country Park) and the surrounding Fenland providing a visual feast for any ramblers.
Unlike many of the UKs increasingly prohibited waterways, St Neots campsite positively encourages campers to fish and enjoyand other water-bound pursuits. How fitting then that St Neot himself is in fact the patron saint of fish?! We'll take that as a sign from above that this is well and truly, a site worth visiting.
