Coed Obry is a 5.5 acre private woodland on the edge of Snowdonia National Park. It has its own private gated access from the road and a 50m track leads from the A 4085 to a small car park for 5 vehicles. Paths lead from there to the caravan, bunkhouse, camping areas. There is a compost toilet block and sink (cold water tap) in the centre of the wood shared by all visitors. The notice board in the car park provides visitors with maps, photos and information about the wood, and there are laminated maps showing the routes of around 30 local walks which visitors are welcome to borrow during their stay. Canoe, kayaks and paddle boards are available to hire in Coed Obry and there are several fire pits with seasoned firewood for sale. There is no mains water so visitors are requested to bring their own drinking water, but rain water harvesting systems provide water for washing. Nearby there are several outstanding beaches within 1-3 miles and there is good access to the mountains of Snowdonia; the Afon Dwyryd provides an excellent sheltered river/estuary for canoeing and paddle boarding; the slate quarries and tourist attractions of Blaenau Ffestiniog, rock climbing at Tremadog (2 miles); spectacular waterfalls at Croesor (1 mile); the Ffestiniog Narrow Gauge Railway (0.5 miles); the Glaslyn Osprey Centre (1 mile); several shops, restaurants, hostelries and Spar shop in Penrhyndeudraeth (1 mile); three large supermarkets and a regional shopping centre in Porthmadog (2.5 miles).

Our second stay and even more perfect, the camper van pitch is secluded and quiet, the decking and fire pit beautiful touches for relaxing outside of the van. We were very pleasantly surprised at just how warm the showers were despite the wind and cold and the roundhouse is lovely. To top it all it’s easy to get to the coast path and marvel at the dramatic coastline. 💕

What a magical spot for our first trip in our new to us (but very old) camper. Toilet and showers were beautiful and clean, the roundhouse is a great space and the camping field and lighted decking in the quarry just lovely. No mobile phone signal apart from on the bench and this made it even better. Would recommend for a real getaway from it all site!

Out of our 5 campsite trip, this campsite was our number 1 site and we will definitely be revisiting again. Our camper stay at Ruth’s was fantastic. We were greeted on arrival by Johnno (apologies if incorrect name). Their site is really private and peaceful. The campsite had some great features that made our stay that bit more memorable - a communal roundhouse for campers to gather, a solar powered shower (by far the BEST shower we experienced this road trip - spacious cubicle, very clean, nicely lit up), a phone bench where you could just about get 4G which made you conscious of how much time you spent on your phone, along with a campfire, tree rope swing & quirky compost toilets. A peaceful site close to Lampeter. The pitches are grass and fairly level and there are two small, but beautifully clean toilet and shower shacks with a washing and fresh water area behind. Great communication from the hosts.
