Our site is situated in a species rich meadow field with large mown Pitches surrounded by wild flowers and meandering pathways linking the site together. We are only 13 miles from the Historic city of Lancaster, the Bright lights of Blackpool and the jubilee city of Preston. 4 miles from the first fair trade market town of Garstang and 45 mins into the Lake District. A compact and accessible wood with a balance of commercial crops, mature broadleaves, and recent planting, it is set in a sheltered location overlooking the Towy Valley with stunning views. Ffinnant Wood is a mixed woodland, partly commercial and partly broadleaf, with a steep-sided broadleaved valley, Cym yr Abbey, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The wood designations include restored ancient woodland and plantations on ancient woodlands. The SSSI designation arises as this is one of few localities in South Wales that has yielded well-preserved trilobite fossil specimens. The wood comprises a stand of mature mixed Sitka spruce and Douglas fir. These trees have been managed to put on height and volume. The area of recent (2021) coniferous clear felling and some nearby thinning yielded approximately 1,800m3, approximately 635 tonnes/ hectare, showing that this is a productive site. Following harvesting, these areas were replanted with 50/50 Sitka spruce/Douglas fir and a Sm edge of broadleaves adjacent to the B4300. It has been weeded and is growing well. A small area (c. 0.4 hectares, see map) remains to be replanted with 960 trees (Sitka spruce, 90%, oak, 5%, mixed broadleaves, 5%). RIGHTS OF WAY There are no footpaths on the property. This gives the wood an extra element of privacy. DIRECTIONS Drive east on the B4300 from Carmarthen. After 4 miles, you will pass the turn-off for the B4310. Keep on the B4300; after 800m, Ffinnant Wood is on your right-hand side, rising up the slope. There are two points of vehicular access to the wood from the B4300. For viewing, as the B4300 straightens, pull over to the right and park adjacent to the metal double gates, from there you can enter the woodland on foot. You can also enter the site through the smaller wooden gate c.l00m west.

Brilliant campsite. I was camping there alone but felt very comfortable. Lovely field to camp in, beautiful views around the farm in the morning, great building to chill out in, useful facilities to store and heat food. Also loved the honesty shop with delicious pastries. Ian was very helpful with recommending local walks, and checked in throughout stay. Would love to visit again next year!

We had a great time during our stay at the site. We chose to camp by the small river that runs through the property and it was beautiful, almost like in the wild. Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Sleep beneath the Stars!

Great site, facilities and location enjoyed by myself and friends. The ideal place if you want a private field to yourselves - and the dog loved it! Jill was very helpful and her communication was great. She kindly let us meet the donkeys, ducks and doves which we all appreciated. We had plenty of campfires, enjoyed a BBQ and even got to see a beautiful sunset on top of the hill on our last night there. Overall a lovely weekend and I highly recommend visiting.

Definitely as described, and would have been absolutely gorgeous if the weather was amazing: beautiful view, fire pit and barbecue, just imagine! The weather was a bit wet and windy for us, but we still had a lovely two night stay and basically had the place to ourselves. Toilets and showers great, the little pub so nice and the farm shop an added extra. We really valued the commitment to recycling and zero waste and everyone we spoke to was super friendly. We will definitely be back!

Our second time here. Absolutely wonderful hosts, John would’ve put our tent up for us just to stop us arguing!! They’re always around, cleaning, helping and chatting. What a gem! Had such a lovely time at this little campsite - so much so that we extended our stay twice. Beautiful bit of land, quiet and calm, within easy driving distance to the best of Brecon Beacons. Lots of site options in the field and in the woods so that everyone can get their pick of a great spot with a fire pit. The creek is crystal clear and was lush to swim in during the hot days we were there. About as close to wild camping as you can get, with a very well maintained compost toilet but no other amenities. No complaints here though, we love a true outdoors experience! David was a welcoming host and came around to make sure everything was well. Will definitely come again the next time we are in the area.

Basic in that there isnt drinking water and only a single compost loo, but perfect for those who care more about the surrounds than creature comforts. The river is clean (and cold! But rejuvenating!) and David is very welcoming. George the horse is a little fickle but worth the effort.

Where to go

Llyn Padarn & Llyn Peris

These dual lakes showcase a gentler side to the village’s mostly mountainous surroundings, albeit with big peaks immediately above the lakeshores. The lakes form a fetching chain cutting northwest-southeast past Llanberis. Llyn Padarn hosts Padarn Country Park and the Llanberis Lake Railway, while Llyn Peris offers Dinorwig Power Station (built inside a mountain!) and Prince Llywelyn the Great’s one-time stronghold, Dolbadarn Castle. Camp in Llanberis or at Nant Peris to explore.

Snowdon & Around

Snowdon is Wales’ most popular outdoor playground—and Britain’s loftiest land south of Scotland’s Highlands. The start of the main trailhead, Llanberis also has a railway coiling up the peak. Snowdon is busy, but campers can hike slightly away from the peak to find fantastic, less-frequented mountain country. Several campsites are gathered near the main approaches to the summit.

The Glyderau

Across Llanberis Pass from the Snowdon massif is a range of even more dramatic appearance. The Glyderau, and in particular the mountain chain’s eastern peaks of Glyder Fach and Tryfan, are studded with striking rock formations with standout hillwalking and climbing. Gain access from Llanberis via Nant Peris (Old Llanberis) and from Pen-y-Pass, five miles southeast of Llanberis. Campsites on the southeast side of Llyn Peris make good bases for exploring.

When to go

Such is Llanberis’ appeal that people visit year-round. It is, however, very cold and wet for camping outside of the March to October period. (It’s still possible to find plenty else to do even when clouds obscure the mountains.) Snowdon visits between November and April also invariably entail walking across snow and ice, which should only be attempted by those with experience. Snowdon is best climbed between May and September. Every day is busy, so set off early and avoid school holidays to beat the crowds.
