Overview
Conveniently set between Edinburgh and Glasgow, the West Lothian region offers an easy countryside getaway from either city. History lovers are drawn to the famed Linlithgow Palace while outdoor enthusiasts can hit everything from golf courses to family-friendly walking trails and opportunities for rafting and windsurfing on a loch. West Lothian glamping can mean pitching a tent on farmland close to roaming Highland cattle and Shetland sheep or glamping in cozy wooden pods.

Linlithgow
Linlithgow is popular for Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots. You can tour the palace and see its great hall, court kitchens, and royal chapel. Linlithgow Loch and its surrounding woodlands are great for casual strolls, while more adventurous visitors can enjoy windsurfing and rafting at the Low Port Outdoor Activity Centre. Near the town centre are small, family-run caravan parks with pitches for touring caravans, motorhomes, and tents on open farmland.
Beecraigs Country Park
A few minutes south of Linlithgow, Beecraigs Country Park is a sprawling 900-acre (370-hectare) playground of forest, woodland, and open country. There’s a range of walking trails, mountain bike trails, and a fly fishery—and campers will likely see red deer, Highland cattle, and Shetland sheep. Beecraigs camping sites may feature hardstanding pitches with electric hookups as well as non-electric grass pitches.
Kirknewton
Just west of the Pentland Hills, Kirknewton is a small village that offers activities such as walking and pony trekking in the surrounding countryside. The biggest attraction is Jupiter Artland, a sculpture park and art gallery that sprawls over 100 acres (40 hectares) of fields, gardens, and woodland (closed in winter). You can find Kirknewton glamping experiences just outside of town.
Livingston
While Livingston lies in one of the most built-up parts of West Lothian, it's still within reach of the great outdoors. Just outside of town, Almondell Country Park is a great spot for taking a walk to the aqueduct on the Union Canal. East of the town centre, the family-friendly Almond Valley Heritage Centre is home to farm animals, including Highland cattle, rare-breed sheep, and Clydesdale horses. Meanwhile, area campsites are often set on farmland with wide-open space and pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes, as well as glamping pods, self-catering lodges, and static caravan holiday homes.
