Directions were a little confusing at the start as the sat-nav took us to the house a little distance up the road but once we knew our place it was absolutely fine. Runach Arainn is even more lovely in person than in the photos. Great location for a peaceful and relaxing stay on Arann. The yurts are comfortable, the kitchen/fire-pit etc are well-equipped and the orchard setting is beautiful. It's just a short walk to the beach or to the Lagg Inn for dinner. Highly recommend.

Beautiful campsite on a working farm. Facilities are clean and effective. The animals that we ran into were friendly, especially a little black cat that was very eager to say hello. The location was great, site was peaceful and there was very little wind, even with the poor weather that we got on our trip.

Caroline was fantastic! She made the check-in and check out so easy and ensured our comfort throughout, and the yurt and its facilities were perfect! This place is a gem! External cooking facilities were great, as was the wood fired hot tub!....perfect for a just needed getaway! Would certainly stay here again and again!...the yurts décor and cleanliness was exceptional. Top tip...order the pizza oven...its really worth it. Thanks again Caroline....

If you are looking for peace and quiet, surrounded by beautiful countryside then this place is for you. Great location. Great communication - Ruth came to see us when we contactedher about the WIFI. Use of private bathroom and shower. Only thing for us is that those facilities were across a farm yard and the cabin didn't have its own supply. The bed was comfy and the cabin stayed at a good temperature (even when it was cold outside). Fire pit available. Would recommend

Very friendly staff. Easy to find. Great facilities. Lovely walks right at back of premises. Only downside for me was the noise off other campers. People turning up and setting stuff up after 10 pm. Also loud group of lads. But I’m use to wild camping so maybe noise would be acceptable for most.

These pods are lush. There’s everything you’ll need (except bedding for the sofa bed - which is absolutely fine). It’s a beautiful location too. There were a few little bottles of wine on the table when we arrived, which was a lovely touch. Would definitely recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the log cabin, from the great atmosphere to the welcoming and helpful people close by, it was one of nicest glamping experiences. The cabin was such a cozy experience along with the beautiful view right outside of your cabin. If you are looking for some time away to relax or for long walks or even a little boat around the stream Ottermoss is the place to go.

Where to go

In Town

The eastern side of Musselburgh is home to the Royal Musselburgh Golf Course and such attractions as the Prestongrange industrial and heritage museum. Close to where the 134-mile (216-kilometer) John Muir Way coast-to-coast walking and cycling route passes, Drummohr Holiday Park has pitches for tents and tourers, as well as a range of glamping options, from pods to bothy-style cabins and lodges with hot tubs.

Gullane

Twelve miles (19 kilometres) east along the coast, the little village of Gullane is home to one of East Lothian’s most beautiful beaches, the sand dune-backed Gullane Bay (a top choice for wild swimming), as well as several golf courses. Lying between Musselburgh and Gullane, the family-friendly Seton Sands Holiday Park has its own nine-hole course, as well as a heated indoor swimming pool.

Pentland Hills

The sprawling Pentland Hills Regional Park lies 10 miles (16 kilometres) southwest of Musselburgh and has more than 62 miles (100 kilometres) of waymarked foot, cycle and horseback paths. At the park’s northeastern point, Mortonhall Caravan and Camping Park has grass and hardstanding pitches for tents, motorhomes, campervans and caravans, as well as a selection of glamping pods.

When to go

This stretch of coast along the Firth of Forth is known for its often sunny conditions. A summer visit is the best time to enjoy it at its best and take advantage of the opportunities for swimming, hiking, golfing and more. This is also the busy season, however, especially over the Scottish school holidays in July and August. September is a good alternative as the biggest crowds will have gone but the weather should still be warm.

If choosing to wild camp, be sure to adhere to the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
You can reach Musselburgh in just five minutes by train from Edinburgh; by bus it takes around 30 minutes. Local buses can also connect you to attractions along the coast, including Gullane and North Berwick.
You can easily stock up on groceries at Musselburgh’s well-stocked supermarkets. If you can’t find something, Edinburgh is just minutes away.
