Cleghorn Farm is a mixed farm just north east of the market town of Lanark. Comprised of 250 acres of fields and woodland and bounded to the south by Mouse Water, it is a beautiful spot to get away from it all without having to leave it all behind if you don't want to. The fields are grazed and cultivated but the woodlands are much as they were at the end of the last ice age with spectacular walks along Cleghorn Glen with the chance to see badgers, bats, deer and all manner of birds among the towering pine and beech trees.
The Mouse Water (pronounced moose) tumbles down along the edge of the farm and has some glorious pools for swimming, shallows for paddling and some spectacular water falls before it joins the River Clyde.

Our Huts are located within the Moss Wood area of Bute Forest - a mixed birch and alder wood that extends up the hillside to the west of the A886 that connects the Rhubodach Ferry to Port Bannatyne and Rothesay.
Moss Wood has a range of facilities. Park on the shore-side where the coast can be enjoyed or at the main entrance, and take a walk up through Moss Wood along the Poetry Trail. A steep walk in places, the Poetry Trail is a loop punctuated with places to stop and read, to stop and think. Read nature poetry from throughout the ages, stop at the Blether Stane, or taking the spur to the Viewing Point back south across the Kyles.
Moss Wood connects to the West Island Way – take the Poetry Trail and the spur to the Viewing Point – and then take the Stag’s Trod further up (steeply) till you reach the West Island Way. From there, head south towards Port Bannatyne or north along the boundary of the Community Forest. From the viewing point, you can also explore interesting heritage features such as the old WW2 bunker, kayak shelter, Balnakailly settlement, and the SSSI oak woodland.

The Sunset Pod is within a National Scenic Area and The Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, Scotland’s first National Park. It is surrounded by rolling Stirlingshire countryside and hills and is approached via its long private, and gated, drive off a quiet country road.
When you reach the pod, on the left side of the front door there is a key safe box (details will be sent on your booking) for self-check-in, just put the code in to access the keys to the pod and enjoy your stay admiring amazing mountains views. And if you are lucky, a deer may pay you a surprising visit.
If you are a smoker, we kindly ask you to only smoke outside of the glamping pod within the gazebo area, where an ashtray is provided.

Tea, coffee and sugar are supplied at the start of the holiday, but will not be replenished.
Bathroom - with shower, toilet and washbasin. We do not supply towels.
Additional - Outside table and 4 chairs. Also Fire and CO Alarms, Thermometer, Wall clock and Tide clock.
An information pack of places to visit and eat is provided.
The caravan is on the family run Monreith Sands Holiday Park with a great location on the beautiful Galloway coast. Sandy beaches are only a few 100m away. The generally calm waters of Luce Bay are great for swimming or kayaking. Nearby is a golf course plus historic sites and formal gardens.
Although the Galloway Forest is know for being a Dark Sky Park and great for stargazing, the whole Machars peninsular is very dark. The Galloway Astronomy Centre (01988 500594) gives stargazing tours.

The 2 bedroom 35 x 12ft caravan is fully equipped for self-catering. With double glazing, central heating and an additional electric fire in the lounge it is warm throughout the year. The boiler also supplies constant hot water.

Strictly no smoking or vaping is allowed in the caravan.
The caravan can sleep up to 6 persons.
Bedroom #1 - with standard size double bed (new mattress for 2025) with fitted wardrobes and cupboards.
Bedroom #2 - with two single beds with cupboard space.
The lounge sofa has a fold out double bed (new mattress for 2025).
All bedding is provided.
Lounge / Dining Room - the lounge has large windows and access to the veranda. The room also has fitted cupboards. The dining area has a circular table with 4 chairs.
Kitchen - fully fitted with a gas cooker, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, pots and pans. Cooking utensils, a 6 piece dinner service and cutlery are also provided.
Tea, coffee and sugar are supplied at the start of the holiday, but will not be replenished.
Bathroom - with shower, toilet and washbasin. We do not supply towels.
Additional - Outside table and 4 chairs. Also Fire and CO Alarms, Thermometer, Wall clock and Tide clock.
An information pack of places to visit and eat is provided.
The caravan is on the family run Monreith Sands Holiday Park with a great location on the beautiful Galloway coast. Sandy beaches are only a few 100m away. The generally calm waters of Luce Bay are great for swimming or kayaking. Nearby is a golf course plus historic sites and formal gardens.
Although the Galloway Forest is know for being a Dark Sky Park and great for stargazing, the whole Machars peninsular is very dark. The Galloway Astronomy Centre (01988 500594) gives stargazing tours.

3 nights at St Conan's Escape
St. Conan's Escape was such a beautiful area to disappear into! The property manager, Hazel, did such a phenomenal job of preparing the space--it was so beautifully-decorated and clearly well-maintained that I could see this as the perfect experience for other solo travelers or couples looking for a beautiful location to sink into.
I found St. Conan's Escape when looking for a place to go off-grid for a couple of days in the midst of traveling, and it had everything I needed--all of the amenities including plenty of cookware, a bathroom and extremely comfortable bed, so that I could focus on my writing projects. What a beautiful scenery it's in, too! I woke up to a beautiful sunrise over the mountains in the distance and I was so sad to leave such a majestic view. I would absolutely return and recommend it to anyone looking for a new experience!

Weekend Trip to Cleghorn Farm

We loved the cabin. Spacious and we slept very well. The best shower ever! The campsite has wonderful views and is well maintained. We used the bbq and fire pit. The barn is well equipped for cooking and relaxing. Angus is a wonderful host. Definitely would return to Muiredge when in Scotland!

The pods were clean, comfortable, spacious and well equipped. Unfortunately the fly screen for our door was broken so it was a choice of being gnawed on by midges or being very hot- we chose the heat which was a bit uncomfortable but a fan had been provided which helped. The views were incredible of the loch and mountains and the walking and cycling just stunning. It's a little public with it being next to the main path but if you aren't looking for seclusion then it's fine and we found it vibrant and interesting watching the boats and people coming and going. The food in the cafe was excellent and we enjoyed the take away option, it does close fairly early so best to get there before 5:15pm. All in all it was a beautiful spot and very good accommodation and we had a brilliant time.

Runach Arainn is even more lovely in person than in the photos. Great location for a peaceful and relaxing stay on Arann. The yurts are comfortable, the kitchen/fire-pit etc are well-equipped and the orchard setting is beautiful. It's just a short walk to the beach or to the Lagg Inn for dinner. Highly recommend.

The Charcoal Huts were so magical. We stayed in Birch and it had amazing views, was quite private and had everything we needed - including things we forgot.

Very friendly staff. Easy to find. Great facilities. Lovely walks right at back of premises.
Only downside for me was the noise off other campers. People turning up and setting stuff up after 10 pm. Also loud group of lads. But I’m use to wild camping so maybe noise would be acceptable for most.

From the minute we arrived Anne was welcoming and gave us all the information to do with the lodge, the lodge itself was spotless and felt homely from the minute we walked in. Anne also left a welcome pack which was an added bonus, the hot tub was ready on arrival and Anne also shown us how to use this before leaving
Anne gave us recommendations on places to visit and where we could go for days out, we were recommended the milk barn which was delicious, the ice cream and milkshakes were perfect!
We would also recommend going there!

Saltcoats
Ardrossan is part of a conurbation with Saltcoats and Stevenston, collectively known as the 'Three Towns'. To the south, the Saltcoats area is known for its picturesque harbour and golden beaches set around Irvine Bay. It’s also home to the North Ayrshire Museum, housed in a former church. Here, Sandylands Holiday Park enjoys a coastal location and has electric or non-electric grass pitches.
Fairlie
A 20-minute drive north of Ardrossan, Fairlie is world-famous for its graffiti-covered Kelburn Castle—the castle was given a colourful makeover by a team of Brazilian street artists. The Kelburn Castle estate is also the setting for one of Scotland’s liveliest music festivals, the Kelburn Garden Party, and is home to a secluded forest and glens, as well indoor and outdoor play areas. The estate has pitches for tents and tourers, as well as glamping yurts and bell tents.
Ayr
The Ayrshire countryside famously provided inspiration for Robert Burns and today visitors to Ayr can explore the Burns Heritage Trail and the Burns Heritage Centre to learn more. Ayr Beach’s long stretch of sand is another highlight in the area, as is Culzean Castle and Country Park to the south. A 35-minute drive from Ardrossan, Ayr Craigie Gardens Club Site has pitches for tents and tourers and sits on the grounds of Craigie Estate within easy walking distance of Ayr’s town centre.
When to go
Summer temperatures range from mild to warm, with the chance of the occasional hotter day. Add in the season’s long daylight hours and summer is the best time to explore Ardrossan and the surrounding Ayrshire’s towns, villages and countryside. Spring and autumn are both also good options: there will be fewer crowds and booked-up ferries compared to summer and the climate should be mild after April and through October/November. The area doesn’t get too cold in winter but winter storms can disrupt ferry journeys.
Know before you go
- Wild camping is possible throughout Scotland but campers must adhere to the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
- Ardrossan is a 40-minute train journey from Glasgow. Regular local buses can get you to most places of interest in the surrounding area.
- You can easily stock up on food supplies at Ardrossan’s well-stocked supermarkets.
