Our Huts are located within the Moss Wood area of Bute Forest - a mixed birch and alder wood that extends up the hillside to the west of the A886 that connects the Rhubodach Ferry to Port Bannatyne and Rothesay. Moss Wood has a range of facilities. Park on the shore-side where the coast can be enjoyed or at the main entrance, and take a walk up through Moss Wood along the Poetry Trail. A steep walk in places, the Poetry Trail is a loop punctuated with places to stop and read, to stop and think. Read nature poetry from throughout the ages, stop at the Blether Stane, or taking the spur to the Viewing Point back south across the Kyles. Moss Wood connects to the West Island Way – take the Poetry Trail and the spur to the Viewing Point – and then take the Stag’s Trod further up (steeply) till you reach the West Island Way. From there, head south towards Port Bannatyne or north along the boundary of the Community Forest. We loved the cabin. Spacious and we slept very well. The best shower ever! The campsite has wonderful views and is well maintained. We used the bbq and fire pit. The barn is well equipped for cooking and relaxing. Angus is a wonderful host. Definitely would return to Muiredge when in Scotland!

I loved my 4 night break in the Bramble Yurt. The yurt was clean and cosy. I did have the stove burner on due to the weather being so good. The bathroom shed was clean and fresh. The fridge was a god send considering the temperature reach a high of 27 degrees. I had a relaxing time sitting in the fresh air watching the wild life and the world go by. I would highly recommend Organic Welltree. I shall definitely go back. I wish to thanks them for my time at Kirkland.

The Charcoal Huts were so magical. We stayed in Birch and it had amazing views, was quite private and had everything we needed - including things we forgot. It was beautiful and cosy inside and the fire kept us so warm. I really loved this place.

Stuart really put thought and effort into making the Airstream and area into an amazing place to stay. With a deck, gas BBQ, firepit and lots of spots to sit outside it makes for a very relaxed time away. The area is very quiet but there is lots to see and do that's not very far. Truly a great host, it was a pleasure to stay there.

Very friendly staff. Easy to find. Great facilities. Lovely walks right at back of premises. Only downside for me was the noise off other campers. People turning up and setting stuff up after 10 pm. Also loud group of lads. But I’m use to wild camping so maybe noise would be acceptable for most.

From the minute we arrived Anne was welcoming and gave us all the information to do with the lodge, the lodge itself was spotless and felt homely from the minute we walked in. Anne also left a welcome pack which was an added bonus, the hot tub was ready on arrival and Anne also shown us how to use this before leaving Anne gave us recommendations on places to visit and where we could go for days out, we were recommended the milk barn which was delicious, the ice cream and milkshakes were perfect! We would also recommend going there! Thank you Anne, we love our stays

Where to go

Newtonmore

Three miles west of Kingussie, the village of Newtonmore is popular with anglers and has cycle and walking trails offering views of the Cairngorm and Monadhliath mountain ranges. The quiet, family-run Invernahavon Caravan Site has excellent views of the mountains, forests and rivers and has spacious pitches with hook-ups for tourers, as well as tent pitches. South of the village, on a bend of the River Spey, the Spey Bridge Caravan and Camping Park has pitches for campervans and tents.

Glen Feshie

Nestled in the Glen Feshie woods, eight miles east of Kingussie and a 10-minute drive from the Highland Wildlife Centre, the Lagganlia Centre for Outdoor Education has a selection of basic camping pods with shared facilities. The center also has a variety of self-catering lodges suitable for groups.

Rothiemurchus

A 20-minute drive east, deeper into the Cairngorms National Park, the Rothiemurchus estate contains one of Britain’s largest areas of natural forest. Here, the tranquil Rothiemurcus Camp and Caravan Site offers the ideal combination of a semi-wilderness experience with plenty of creature comforts. The site has sheltered tent pitches and level pitches for caravans and motorhomes, all with electric hook-up.

When to go

Summer is the Cairngorms National Park’s busiest season, bringing crowds and booked-up campsites. If planning to visit in the summer months, it’s a good idea to try to avoid school holidays and weekends. The area is a year-round destination, however. Spring can be a great time to enjoy water sports, hiking and climbing, free from crowds. From late February through March you can also enjoy skiing and other winter sports: this is also a good time to visit the Cairngorms Reindeer Centre.

Not all sites in the area open year-round: check opening dates before traveling.
Wild camping is legally allowed in Scotland if practiced responsibly under the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
Kingussie is on the overnight Caledonian Sleeper railway line from London to Inverness. You can also reach Kingussie by public bus from Aviemore and Inverness.
