Welcome to Fernlea. We would love to have you visit us, either on our 5 pitch campsite for motorhomes and caravans, or in 2025 to our new luxury glamping pod. Fernlea is our home in the heart of an agricultural plain called “The Carse of Gowrie,” which runs for 20 miles or so along the River Tay between Perth and Dundee. It’s a beautiful area that we hope you will love too. We are a short walk from the village of Errol, with access to lovely walks along the Tay. We are adjacent to the local bus route (just stick your arm out!), the Sustrans cycle route 77, plus only a mile or so from the A90 Perth to Dundee / Aberdeen road. We are perfect for both a short stopover and a longer break with a fascinating local area to explore. All pitches have hard standing, water on each pitch, grey waste disposal adjacent to the pitch, and a 10 or 16 amp electric supply with a chemical toilet waste tank with rinsing tap behind our garage. We are also within easy access to Fife and the southern area of the Highlands. Walkers and bird watchers will find many footpaths by the River Tay and can climb the local hills to see buzzards, hawks, ducks, and migrating geese throughout the seasons. Any visitors requiring repairs or accessories for their van will find the large Perthshire Caravan dealership nearby. Every Sunday, one of Scotland’s largest car boot sales and markets is held less than a mile away. Weekend Trip to Fernlea - Campsite & Pod

Staying at Bruce’s house was an absolute pleasure! He was so incredibly helpful and kind and the pod is perfect. I would live there for the rest of my life if I could! The kitchen is great. The hot tub is beyond belief and so good that it’s almost intoxicating. When my boyfriend and I accidentally reset the Internet, Bruce was beyond kind and helpful. Next time I’m in this area I will for sure Be staying here again.

The pods were clean, comfortable, spacious and well equipped. Unfortunately the fly screen for our door was broken so it was a choice of being gnawed on by midges or being very hot- we chose the heat which was a bit uncomfortable but a fan had been provided which helped. The views were incredible of the loch and mountains and the walking and cycling just stunning. It's a little public with it being next to the main path but if you aren't looking for seclusion then it's fine and we found it vibrant and interesting watching the boats and people coming and going. The food in the cafe was excellent and we enjoyed the take away option, it does close fairly early so best to get there before 5:15pm. All in all it was a beautiful spot and very good accommodation and we had a brilliant time.

The pod was very clean and organized. The hosts came in and tidied up and left clean towels just like a hotel. They also gave us a tour when we got there and explained how the shower and door lock works instead of us having to use trial and error. The pod has plenty of storage space under the bed and all of the appliances work. Definitely will stay there again. The space is okay for two people, but probably not three.

Where to go

Invergarry

Just northwest of the village and minutes from the Glengarry Viewpoint, which offers panoramic views of the Glengarry Mountains, the adults-only Faichemard Farm Campsite has ample, mostly hardstanding, pitches for motorhomes and caravans. The site, which is on a working farm, also operates a self-catering cottage.

Loch Ness

A 10-minute drive north of Invergarry gets you to the shores of the famed Loch Ness. Close to the Loch Ness Viewpoint In Fort Augustus and a handy base for embarking on outdoor activities such as biking and sailing, Loch Ness Holiday Park has a range of glass-fronted glamping pods, as well as fully equipped upscale lodges.

Spean Bridge

A 25-minutes drive south of Invergarry, the family-run Gairlochy Holiday Park sits on the southern shore of Loch Lochy. The site has grass and hardstanding pitches for caravans, motorhomess and tents, as well as a selection of log chalets with views toward the U.K.’s tallest mountain, Ben Nevis.

When to go

The area around Invergarry, and much of the stretch of the Great Glen Way, is typically busy with tourists from May/June through August which means you may find crowded trails and booked-up campsites. Between April and early May is a good time to visit to avoid crowds and enjoy a colorful landscape filled with blooming flowers. While the weather will likely be cool, you can still enjoy activities such as hiking, cycling and kayaking.

Know before you go

Some sites in the area are seasonal: check opening dates before traveling.
Wild camping is legal in Scotland as long as you follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
Biting midges are a common nuisance during Highland summers. Don’t forget to pack repellant and long sleeves.
Local buses travel to Invergarry from Fort William and Inverness.
