Where to go

Around Town

Staying in the village puts you within walking distance of distilleries including the world-famous Glenfiddich, as well as the Dufftown Golf Club and local shops. On the west side of Dufftown, Hillside Havens offers camping in pods, some with hot tubs, surrounded by rural countryside.

Aberlour

Lying along the southeast bank of the River Spey, the little village of Aberlour is home to Aberlour Distillery and is a gateway to Cairngorms National Park. Nestled within a Victorian walled garden within a short walking distance of the River Spey, Speyside Gardens Caravan Park has touring, tent and static caravan pitches. Another relaxing spot can be found at Speyside by Craigellachie Camping and Caravanning Club Site.

Fochabers

A 25-minute drive north of Dufftown, the village of Fochabers lies on the main Moray coastal route and along the route of the Speyside Way long distance path that connects Aviemore and Buckie. Here, Braehead Camping and Glamping has tent pitches, tents for hire and a selection of pods.

When to go

For the best chance of warm and sunny weather, the best time to explore Dufftown and its surroundings is summer. This is peak season, however, so it’s a good idea to make reservations for campsites and distillery tours in advance. Whisky lovers should try to make their travel plans coincide with the biennial Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, which sees the area host hundreds events, from live music to talks and tastins, over a few days.

  • The closest train station is in Elgin, which you can reach by bus (the journey takes just under an hour)
  • There are a handful of small supermarkets in Dufftown, which should keep you well-stocked in the essentials. For larger purchases, head for Elgin.
