The Loft Glamping & Camping

12 units · Motorhomes, Tents5 acres · Kinloss, Scotland
The Loft Glamping & Camping is situated at East Grange Farm, Kinloss, Moray. It 's a working farm that has evolved over the years to include Wigwam Glamping and Camping for campervans, motorhomes and tents. A number of the old farm buildings are also perfectly appointed as venue spaces for Weddings, Events and Workshops. The "wilderness" campsite offers pitches suitable for tents and small campervans whilst the Stackyard area is suitable for motorhomes and mega tents. All motorhome pitches have electrical hook-up and we have a good number of electric tent pitches. Unfortunately we do not take bookings for caravans. Onsite, we also have Original Wigwam cabins which are wooden camping cabins (Pods) that offer all year round protection against the elements. With heating, electricity, fridge, kettle and toasters. For those wanting a bit more luxury there are also ensuite Wigwam Cabins onsite with wood fired hot tubs. We welcome families, groups, well behaved dogs and do allow campfires outside the wigwams and at pitches and can provide fire hubs on the campsite (this must be pre-arranged). The Loft Glamping & Camping looks forward to welcoming you throughout the year!

Cleghorn Farm

11 units · Glamping, Tents250 acres · Lanark, Scotland
*PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE ONLY OPEN FOR WEEKEND BOOKINGS FOR CAMPING. THE CABIN IS AVAILABLE FOR MIDWEEK BOOKINGS* Cleghorn Farm is a mixed farm just north east of the market town of Lanark. Comprised of 250 acres of fields and woodland and bounded to the south by Mouse Water, it is a beautiful spot to get away from it all without having to leave it all behind if you don't want to. The fields are grazed and cultivated but the woodlands are much as they were at the end of the last ice age with spectacular walks along Cleghorn Glen with the chance to see badgers, bats, deer and all manner of birds among the towering pine and beech trees. The Mouse Water (pronounced moose) tumbles down along the edge of the farm and has some glorious pools for swimming, shallows for paddling and some spectacular water falls before it joins the River Clyde.

River, stream, or creek and dog-friendly campsites near Montrose guide

Overview

North of Dundee, lying along the Angus coast on the way to Aberdeen, Montrose is an attractive small town that is well worth a visit. The pretty town centre, with its narrow closes and hidden courtyards, is worth a wander around and the wide sandy beach provides the perfect setting for a leisurely stroll. Montrose is also a top destination for wildlife watchers. The town sits on the edge of the Montrose Basin, a nature reserve and haven for wildfowl and wading birds. Further north, the cliffs of St. Cyrus National Nature Reserve are summertime home to a bustling colony of seabirds.

Where to go

In Montrose

The small town is steeped in history, which you can delve into by visiting the Montrose Museum and following the Montrose Heritage Trail. Also of interest is the historic Georgian country home, House of Dun, next to Montrose Basin, which has sprawling grounds and gardens to explore. A stone’s throw from Montrose Beach, South Links Holiday Park has pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes.

St Cyrus

The village of St Cyrus is home to the St Cyrus National Nature Reserve, which, as well as its seabird-filled cliffs, is known for its flower-rich grasslands and beach. It’s an attractive year-round spot for long walks and wildlife spotting. A 10-minute drive north of the reserve, Miltonhaven Seaside Caravan Park has pitches for tourers and tents.

Lunan Bay

A 10-minute drive south of Montrose, Lunan Bay is a beautiful stretch of golden beach that is a favourite of swimmers, sunbathers, surfers, windsurfers and horse riders. It’s one of the east coast’s best beaches. Next to the beach, Lunan Bay Campsite has grass pitches for caravans, motorhomes and tents.

When to go

For making the most of the long days, and enjoying (with luck) some sunny weather, visiting in spring or summer is ideal. Summer is also the best time to spot seabirds and, possibly, dolphins and whales. While this is peak season, especially during the school summer holidays in July and August, crowds are rarely an issue in this relatively undiscovered part of Scotland. Winters tend to be grey, wet and short (the sun sets around 4 p.m. in winter).

Know before you go

  • The weather in Scotland is changeable, even in summer. Come prepared with warm, waterproof clothing.
  • Many campsites in the area are seasonal: check opening dates before travelling.
  • Wild camping is permitted throughout Scotland, as long as you follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
  • Montrose Railway Station has service to Aberdeen, Dundee,Edinburgh and even across the border to England.
