Tyne View Camping is a peaceful spot in Tyne and Wear, not far from Hedley on the Hill village. It's on a farm run by David and his family, who welcome guests to enjoy the beautiful countryside views.
You can see the Tyne Valley from the camping pitches, which is great for stargazing at night. The site is basic with just water taps and toilets, no showers, but there's lots of space for kids and dogs to play.
You're allowed to bring a barbecue or firepit for cooking, and you can buy supplies in Prudhoe nearby. Or, you can walk to Hedley on the Hill for a meal at a top-notch pub.
There are plenty of things to do nearby, like walking in the woods, playing golf, or trying gliding. You can also visit Hadrian’s Wall, Newcastle upon Tyne, or explore the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for a varied and enjoyable break.Also this June we will be open for the Sam Fender weekend ie June 12 til the 16th if anyone wants to camp £20 a night plus a taxi for £20

I had the most wonderful stay at this campsite over the weekend. It’s such a lovely spot, set on a farmyard where chickens, ducks, and geese wander around freely, which gives it a really peaceful and charming atmosphere. Each pitch comes with its own firepit, and wood is thoughtfully provided – such a nice touch that made the evenings really special.
The host, Ted, is absolutely brilliant. He’s a genuinely lovely, well-spoken gentleman who takes the time to come around the site to check that everyone is happy and comfortable. You really feel looked after here.
It’s rare to find a campsite that feels this welcoming and relaxed. Honestly, I can’t say a bad word about it – it’s perfect. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a cosy, friendly getaway.

We had a fantastic stay! Ted was an incredible host - welcoming, helpful, and made sure everything ran smoothly. The land itself is absolutely beautiful, well-maintained, clean and views are stunning. Even during a busy bank holiday weekend, there was plenty of space for everyone, so it didn’t felt crowded.
A lovely bonus was the presence of ducks and chickens on the property, which meant we had access to delicious fresh eggs in the morning..such a treat!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and will definitely be returning. Highly recommended!

Just returning from our first visit to Cardewlees and we could not of asked for a better stay. Cardewlees is an absolute little gem of a campsite and Johnny could not have been a better host if he tried. Can't rate our stay highly enough. Beautiful location with the most gorgeous views. The ducks that roam the site are just the sweetest! Lots and lots to do in the local area if you want to but if you prefer the rural feel you've certainly got that here too. The host Ted is wonderful, made us feel extremely welcome and certainly went above and beyond to help us and make us feel at home. We enjoyed our stay so much we cancelled our next site and stayed here an extra 2 nights. Definitely coming back 😊

Ted was great and the site is very peaceful. The ducks are wonderful! Things are basic with just a water tap and one chemical toilet, but that is part of the charm. It is quiet and the views are lovely.

When to go
Summer is the most popular time to visit Hamsterley Forest, but it can get busy. Set out early to snag a parking spot and get a jump on the crowds. Outdoor activities are possible year-round, and it’s worth revisiting to make the most of each season. Come in spring to stroll through the bluebell woods, in fall to admire the changing leaves, or in winter for crisp walks through the snow.
Know before you go
- Haldon Forest is located on the eastern edge of the North Pennines AONB, about a 30-minute drive from Durham.
- You will need your own transport, as there are no public transport links to the park. Paid parking is available.
- There are restrooms and a café in the park.
- Some of the park’s trails are wheelchair accessible.
