Just north of La Ravoire, the jagged cliffs and forest-clad valleys of the Massif des Bauges Regional Natural Park are dotted with alpine villages and offer four seasons of outdoor activities. Get your adrenaline-fix canyoning, rock climbing, and paragliding through the summer months, then head off-piste to enjoy Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, and dog-sled rides during the snow season.
South of La Ravoire and the Lac du Bourget, the Chartreuse Mountains stretch down into the Vercors. This scenic section of the Prealps is blanketed with lush alpine meadows, woodland gorges, and soaring limestone cliffs, providing ample terrain for rock climbing, mountain biking, and hand-gliding. Head to Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse for cross-country skiing in winter, hike to the summit of Charmant Som, or visit the idyllic Grande Chartreuse Monastery.
Just a 40-minute drive from La Ravoire, lakeside Annecy is one of the region’s most picturesque towns, with its cobbled Old Town and medieval chateau looking out across the glittering Lake Annecy (Lac d’Annecy). Mountain views await at the lakeside campsites, from where you can enjoy boat cruises and water sports, or head into the surrounding hills to hike, mountain bike, or enjoy a hot-air balloon flight.
Like the rest of the French Alps, La Ravoire boasts two peak seasons. December and February are the busiest months on the ski slopes, while July and August see the biggest summer crowds. Pick your season based on your chosen activities—November through March for skiing and winter sports or May through September for hiking, climbing, and water sports. Most campsites are open from April through October only, but you’ll find mobile home and chalet rentals year-round.
