Hiking and mountain biking trails circle the shores of Lake Annecy, and lakeside towns like Sevrier, Menthon-Saint-Bernard, and Talloires are popular spots for a camping holiday. On the lake itself, there are water sports suitable for the whole family, from stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking to windsurfing and wakeboarding.
Sharp limestone cliffs, lush meadows, and forested valleys stretch south of Lake Annecy across the Haute-Savoie and Savoie. The vast Massif des Bauges Regional Nature Park has more than 85 miles of cross-country ski pistes, along with miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, and a range of campsites with direct access to the trails.
North of Annecy, the alpine ski resort of Chamonix is the gateway to Mont Blanc, Europe’s highest mountain, and sits near the triple border of France, Switzerland, and Italy. Rent a cosy mountaintop chalet or mobile home, ride France’s highest cable car to the Aiguille du Midi, and enjoy some of the best skiing and winter sports in the French Alps,
Like most French Alps resort towns, Annecy has two high seasons. Come in the winter months to hit the surrounding ski slopes—the winter sports season runs from November through March. Alternatively, the summer season (May through September) is the time for water sports on the lake and hiking in the Alps, as well as seasonal events like the Lake Annecy Festival.
