Alpine vistas, mountain adventures, and big thrills await at Europe’s highest peak.

Just an hour’s drive from Chamonix, Lake Geneva has charming lakeside towns, mountain peaks, and magnificent views on both sides of the French-Swiss border. Campers will find plenty of lakeside campgrounds to park their motorhome or campervan, from where you enjoy boat cruises and water sports on the lake, go hiking in the hills, or hop between small towns like Évian-les-Bains, Montreux, and Vevey.
Gleaming blue waters and snow-capped peaks frame the mediaeval castle and atmospheric Old Town of Annecy, just a short drive south of Chamonix. Take to the water to kayak, stand-up paddleboard, or windsurf, follow the hiking and biking trails around the lake, or dare to try paragliding or hot air ballooning over the lake.
South of Chamonix, the Vanoise National Park harbours some of the most magnificent glacial landscapes in the French Alps. Hike or snowshoe (depending on the season) to high altitude lakes, alpine valleys, and rocky peaks; look out for marmots and wildflowers in summer; and camp at secluded bivouacs along the trails.
The alpine resorts of Chamonix Mont Blanc have two high seasons and when to visit depends on your preferred activities. Ski season runs from November through early May, with the best snowfall typically from January to March. Alternatively, June through September sees the mountaintops blanketed in wildflowers and ample opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and white-water rafting.
