5-Minute Walk To The Ocean

67km from Gooseberry Cove Provincial Park · 1 site · RV · Trepassey, NL
We're a family of three residing in St. John's Newfoundland. I am a coastal researcher and hiking guide. This is a little bit of property we purchased a few years ago that we intend to be building on this coming year. On maps it is 18 Molly's Lane on Google Maps but you will need the pictures below to find it's actual location. The lane is actually Butlers Lane, but also Tobin's in some map apps. It is the last road turning left heading towards the ocean, so not hard to miss. There is an old road onto the property that guests can park their vans/rv/vehicles. Five minute walk from the water in one direction and town maintained trail into the barrens in another direction. Folks are friendly and of Irish decent. We ask that you not walk around the property as their is come cow parsnip, from July to August. However, the parking area will be kept clear. No fires and no waste to be left on the property. Dogs on leash permitted, but again beware of the cow parsnip.

Overview

About

Nestled along the rugged coastline of Placentia Bay, Gooseberry Cove Provincial Park is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. With its picturesque sandy beach and grassy back shore, the park is an idyllic spot for picnicking and soaking in the scenic views. While the high wave action may limit swimming, the cove's natural beauty makes it a perfect destination for a day of relaxation and exploration.

When to go

The best time to visit Gooseberry Cove Provincial Park is between June 5th and October 12th when the park is open to the public. During these months, you can enjoy the full splendour of the cove's natural landscape under the warmth of the summer sun or amid the crisp autumn air. Outside of these dates, the park is closed, and the harsh Newfoundland weather can make coastal visits less enjoyable.

Know before you go

  • Check the weather forecast before your visit, as conditions can change rapidly along the coast.
  • Swimming is restricted due to high wave action, so exercise caution near the water.
  • Remember to pack out all waste, as there are no disposal facilities on site.
  • Accessibility may be limited for some visitors; contact the park in advance for specific information.
  • While the park is free to enter, always respect the natural environment and local wildlife during your visit.
