Overview
Charlevoix is a top destination for outdoor enthusiasts and a gateway to all of the adventures that await in Northern Quebec. Hiking and mountain biking are extremely popular, and ample trails are available at the Parc National des Grands-Jardins and Charlevoix Biosphere Reserve. In summer, there are excellent options for whale watching, fishing, and kayaking. Book a Charlevoix campsite to take in all the area has to offer during this time, or opt for a winter cabin rental to hit the Le Massif ski resort for skiing or snowboarding. The area is also notable for its farm-to-table cuisine—fresh seafood, game, and root vegetables (along with plenty of maple syrup!) dominate regional menus.

Baie-Saint-Paul
The charming small town of Baie-Saint-Paul is one of the region’s most artistic destinations. Its streets offer art galleries, boutiques, and cafes specializing in local cuisine, including homemade cheese. But if you’re looking for more adventure, know you’re in good company. Baie-Saint-Paul is where Cirque du Soleil was founded in 1984! While there aren’t many options to practice acrobatics, you’ll have plenty of hiking, kayaking, whale watching, skiing, and snowboarding opportunities.
La Malbaie
This town has been a popular resort destination since the mid-1800s, and has been nicknamed the Newport of Canada” for its high-class appeal. But locals know it’s also an excellent destination for outdoor activities. In particular, Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie National Park is highly recommended for its gorgeous lakes, extensive network of hiking trails, and beautiful landscapes.
Tadoussac
Tadoussac is one of Canada’s best places to visit for whale watching between May and October, as beluga, minke, and fin whales call this area home. You can even see baby belugas swimming with their families in season, and hit the Marine Mammal Interpretive Centre in the heart of Tadoussac to learn more about these gentle giants. A four-season destination, Tadoussac offers excellent snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and even dog sled tours too.
Saguenay
Saguenay is a superb base for exploring the region. It’s home to several gear outfitters and supply shops that can help you prepare for any outdoor activity, and it’s also next door to the Saguenay Fjord, an incredible natural wonder beloved by kayakers, mountain bikers, hikers, bird-watchers, and rock climbers. At its namesake provincial park, Fjord du Saguenay, the daring can climb along the Via Ferrata route and stay at park campsites for easy access. In winter, Mont Édouard resort is popular with skiers, and there are many good spots for snowshoeing in the surrounding area.
