Located on a picturesque 30-acre farm located in Chatham-Kent, Ontario. We are open year-round. Campers can choose from 2 unique stays:

TJ Stables is home to the Rare And Endangered Anishinaabe Ojibway Spirit Horses thought to be the only existing breed of horse developed by Indigenous people in Canada. While at TJ Stables you are encouraged to add this experience as an extra where you can walk amongst these little horses and experience their incredible spiritual power. Listen to the stories passed down by generations of First Nations People about their bond with these little horses.
Along with the spirit horse walk, there are many authentic experiences to choose from in the extras section and something for everyone to enjoy!

Welcome Hipcampers to Esterville Road in Southern Ontario where acres of farmland awaits you. This countryside glows green in the light of a bright sun, with the rustic wind that speaks of the olden days, as you're nestled along side a hayfield. Whether you'd like to experience a stay in the country, or just go back to your roots for an evening or two.
Here at Crossroads you will have lots of parking, and close to your teepee tent which is 7' x 7', inside your tent will be a double airmattress. We provide a full bathroom with a stand up shower which is possibly shared with other guests as we also have cabins and vintage trailer to accomodate guests like you, and a port-a-jon is on site. At the restroom you will find a drinking water hose for your water needs. An outdoor cooler is beside your tent (don't forget the ice) and a comfy bench to relax at.
Nearby you will find trails, boat launch, Oil Museum, eagle/deer sightings, grocery, local food, banks, parks. Or if ya'd just like to stay and join us at Crossroad Saloon (on property) to kick back and watch T.V. and tunes in the a/c!

Country Bunkie and Camping Near Belle River
Enjoy a taste of quiet country life without being far from town.
Located near Belle River in Essex County, our family-owned property offers a comfortable furnished bunkie, spacious camping among mature trees, open lawns, a small pond, and plenty of room to slow down.
It is a relaxed place to stay while visiting family or friends nearby, attending an event in the area, enjoying a fishing trip, or exploring the communities and attractions of Windsor-Essex.
Stay in the Bunkie
The bunkie is a spacious, open-plan cabin with sleeping, living, dining, and kitchen areas together under a warm wood ceiling. It offers more comfort than traditional camping while still providing the feeling of a casual country retreat.
The kitchenette includes hot and cold municipal water, a microwave, toaster oven, dishes, cookware, and a dining table. Guests also have access to a gas BBQ for outdoor cooking.
Just outside the cabin is an enclosed outdoor shower. A clean, self-contained outdoor washroom is shared by guests and includes a toilet, urinal, handwashing sink, mirror, lighting, ventilation, and running water.
Step outside to enjoy the surrounding lawn, mature trees, pond, and shaded gazebo. The setting is peaceful and rural, but you are still close enough to Belle River to pick up groceries, enjoy a meal out, or spend time along the Lake St. Clair waterfront.
Bring Your Tent or RV
Campers can choose a spot in the large treed area behind the pond, with room for tents and appropriately sized RVs.
Fresh municipal water is available in the camping area. There are no electrical or sewer hookups, so RV guests should arrive prepared for dry camping.
Several groups can be accommodated, although the number of bookings will be kept limited to preserve the space and relaxed atmosphere. The washroom is shared with other guests, and access routes and campsite locations can be selected after arrival.
Relax Here or Explore the Region
You could spend a quiet day on the property, sit beside the pond, read in the gazebo, cook outdoors, or enjoy an evening around the fire. The property also makes a convenient base for exploring Belle River, Lakeshore, and the rest of Essex County.
The Belle River waterfront offers a beach, pier, marina, walking areas, playgrounds, and a splash pad. Lake St. Clair is popular for boating, fishing, paddling, and waterfront recreation, with public marina and boat-launch facilities available in Belle River.
Farther south, guests can explore the Lake Erie shoreline and Essex County’s wine country. The Lake Erie North Shore region is home to more than 20 wineries, many located along scenic country roads near the lake.
Point Pelee National Park makes a rewarding day trip for walking, cycling, paddling, birdwatching, and experiencing the southernmost point of mainland Canada. The wider region also includes beaches, conservation areas, wetlands, and trails for guests who enjoy spending time outdoors.
Windsor is also within reach for restaurants, shopping, entertainment, cultural attractions, and events. Guests travelling with the appropriate documents can continue across the border into Detroit for professional sports, concerts, museums, neighborhoods such as Greektown and Corktown, and other big-city experiences.
Whether you are coming to the region for a family visit, a wedding or celebration, a weekend on the water, a tour of wine country, or simply a change of pace, the bunkie offers a comfortable place to return to at the end of the day.
Good to Know
This is a family-owned, shared property rather than a commercial campground or secluded wilderness retreat. Depending on bookings, bunkie guests and campers may be staying on the property at the same time and will share the washroom and some outdoor amenities.
The campsites have access to fresh water but do not have electricity or sewer service. RV size and access should be confirmed before arrival.

My husband and I had an amazing experience at TJ Stables - we enjoyed the off-grid cabin and the Spirit Horse Tour.
We met Terry (the T in TJ) as soon as we arrived, she gave us a tour of the facility before escorting us to the cabin. Their attention to detail is impressive. They had the bonfire ready to go for us, a full tank of propane for the BBQ, extra firewood, lanterns, lighters, paper plates, utensils, thermacels, bug spray, extra blanket, bedding, you name it. We forgot cooking utensils and Terry generously let us use theirs from the staff kitchen.
Flush toilets are nearby. Showers and bathrooms are available in the main building, accessible 24 hours.
Zoe captivated us with her tour of the rare and beautiful Ojibwe Spirit Horses.
All the staff are friendly and professional. It’s evident they care about what they do and put their hearts into their work. I’m looking forward to going back!

Weekend Trip to TJ Stables
The tipi was nice except when it rained. We got wet. Next time I'll stay in the little cabin. But the 2 hour horse ride was wonderful. Missy was so very patient with us newbies and was so friendly. She really made our stay. The staff were all really friendly. Nice to go somewhere where you are made to feel at home. The experience with horses made us all feel at peace. Thank you f

Weekend Trip to TJ Stables
Overall the stay was Fantastic! The staff are very friendly and willing to help with any questions you may have. it was very peaceful and the views of the pastures along with the small wildlife were great. We also took the 2 hour trail tour ride which we highly recommend The staff are well trained with the horses along with easy to tell they have a real passion and love for their animals, even unexperienced riders will be having fun and feel comfortable by the end of this tour.

The hosts are lovely and very helpful and accommodating. The view is vast and striking and one night we watched a stunning lightening storm chasing behind the sunset while we had a bonfire. Sometimes instruments come out and music is enjoyed. If we were to go back I would go into one of the bunker style options as we found the tent a bit small.

Bobbie- Lynne has thought of everything. The teepee was clean and tidy, the washroom on premise was huge and so clean. Fire pit at the back was calming and overlooked the fields behind the property. It was a rainy day when I went but it was the recharge I needed. Loved how it was close to Dresden. Went to a local cafe before dinner. Would definitely stay again !

Me and my boyfriend went on a getaway before our school starts but we might choose a bad day for camping cuz it was raining all day. Bobbie was so accommodating and hospitable to us. She made sure we were all comfy and helped with a lot of stuff. Property is super calm and relaxing, you’ll also find cute kitties as well. Everything is so well maintained. 10/10 recommended and surely will gonna be coming back after finishing this semester as well.

It was a nice little site with only limited people which is good. There is option of horseback riding (needs prebooking which is cool)
John the owner was really nice and patient, and gave a us good knowledge about history of wild horses.
Will recommend for camping if you dont like a lot of crowd around you. Little bunnies chickens and goats were a plus point

John was an amazing host. Even though we arrived late, he patiently waited to show us around the campsite, started a campfire for us and even gave us a more comprehensive tour the next day.
The horses, other animals and farm overall were incredible and the tipi was a unique experience which we enjoyed.

Excellent Host!
Bobbie and her husband were extremely friendly and helpful. The hosts went put of their way to aide me in excursions in the area during the day and checked in at night time to make sure my mother, my puppy, and I had everything we needed to be comfortable.
The accomodations were well maintained and the bathroom was a refreshing piece of civilization during our
outdoor camping fun.
My wee and group and I were very happy and I would definitely recommend this private campground to others looking to reset in peace and enjoy themselves in a safe and accepting environment.

When we arrived we were happily greeted and brought to our cabin. The cabin had everything we needed and it was so relaxing and really gave you that out of town feeling. There were other campsites near by but you could hardly tell and felt secluded and secure. The kids loved all of the animals! They were able to go on a pony ride and the farm tour really made us all comfortable. The bathrooms and shower were always accessible and clean. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful! The cabin is a must see!

I absolutely loved staying at Terry's space. This was THE BEST hipcamp experience I have ever had. Terry & John are such warm, hospital people who really took their time and care to ensure my mom and I had a great trip.
They gave us a welcome tour of their beautiful property - equipped with history, hiking trails, birdwatching opportunities, stables for horses, ponds for ducks & turtles, firepits, a petting zoo with goats, playground equipment & activities for all ages, etc.! It is literally a haven and the perfect location for a getaway, gathering, wedding, birthday, etc. I cannot wait to come back throughout the seasons.
The bunkie was wonderful and slept 4 comfortably. The room had eating utensils, a table, lanterns and a small space heater for chilly nights. My 72-year old mother and I brought our 2 dogs and they were so happy.
Thank you again, Terry and John, & the extended crew at TJ Stables (David, Cara, etc.) for making our stay so memorable!

Where do I start. This is a healing place. Terry and John are extraordinary people, doing extraordinary things in their community and beyond. You can see their passion on throughout their property, their staff and them as a beautiful couple.
I was the FIRST TO STAY IN THEIR COWBOY BUNKIE which was such a beautiful little space that made me feel right at home. It's tucked away at the back of their property, for just the right amount of privacy and rustic-vibe. Specially when you add on a trail ride! Would highly recommend, my ride leader Kylie was so perfect, knowledgable and enthusiastic!
My 2nd night I was honoured to received a medicine walk as well as a SPIRIT HORSE ENCOUNTER which I feel could soothe anyone's soul. The tipi is beautiful and it was very fun to learn how the structure is made.
This is a special place that words cannot describe.....you'll just have to visit to be able to understand it's rejuvenating energy.
Thank you Terry and John (and team) for making me feel so comfortable, safe, cared for and for making me feel like apart of your family! Hope to see you in the future.
