Welcome to Thistle Dew! We are located 10 minutes south of stunning Fernie, British Columbia. We are located about 15 minutes from Hiway 3.
Thistle Dew is tucked into the mountains and faces the Lizard range at Fernie Alpine Resort. The campsite is surrounded by beautiful trees, which makes our single tent site feel very tucked away and private. While the sun is shining, hop on your bike or put on your hikers, step out of your tent and you are on the Elk Valley Trail section of the Trans Canada Trail. Or head to the river and cool off. At night, have a fire, lean back and look at the stars. There are very few lights in our neighborhood so the star show is next level. If the timing is right you might even catch The Northern Lights!
4x4 or AWD vehicle needed to access Thistle Dew, the driveway is steep with loose gravel. Thistle Dew is best suited to the self contained tent or Van campers. There is no water or power available.
Campfires are permitted when there is no fire ban. Firewood is available for purchase - add as an extra at time of booking. Firewood will be at campsite when you arrive.

1) .”How far are we from Banff…
2 hours of a beautiful drive that includes kootenay national park.
2)..Important ❗️❗️Please do not bring firewood from other areas to our camp as our property is heavily treed forest and we do not want any transfer of raw wood bugs. We offer $10 generous bundles of wood.
3) When you book, One tent or RV and one vehicle per site. If you are looking to book for a group of friends/family area, we can help with that.. prior to booking.
Also, we reserve the right to put you in the best possible spot to fit in a proper site for what you are camping in and what your needs are. Often people book a site that’s completely wrong for them… but that’s ok… we will fix it. 😊
4) Smoking only on sand at sites and nowhere else on our property Please use a container to hold your butts.
5) Noise restrictions after 9pm…no music or loud behaviour after that. Strictly enforced. We value respect in the camp for all campers.
6) Once you book, we will reply back with important information on the phone number you booked with. Please check for our messages to you for a smooth booking and arrival.
Campers… please do Not put any garbage, of any kind, and especially diapers in our pit toilets. . thank you

We are faithful stewards and respect our beautiful forested lands and animals Our expectation is that campers will also share this respect for our Eco systems in an environmentally friendly way.
As we take this Hipcamp journey together, we are finding little things we can do to make your stay better…Like offering a complimentary table at your site should you require one…. or adjusting the site you booked to one that would perhaps fit your needs much better as we know it’s difficult to choose a perfect site on line. If you forgot something, we probably have one…. Feel free to ask.

Sick of busy noisy RV parks where you're parked 10' from your neighbour? We're renting large, private RV sites just 15 minutes from Wasa, BC. These are off-grid spots—you’ll need a self-contained RV with a full bathroom and kitchen, as there are no hookups currently available.
Each site is surrounded by trees, offering space, solitude. You won’t be parked 10 feet from your neighbour here.
All sites are lakefront or pond-front, with beautiful views and a truly peaceful atmosphere. One lake has a softer clay bottom, the other is rocky with a silty base—both are fantastic for paddleboarding, and relaxing. We especially love swimming in the rockier one.
The property is still a bit rugged—we’ve just moved here and are looking to generate some revenue to help fund improvements. We’ll mow the sites before your arrival and do our best to keep things clean and comfortable.
Please note:
There’s a sani-dump and small shop in Wasa, about 15 minutes away.
The road in is bumpy but fully accessible for 2WD vehicles—just take it slow.
Quiet hours apply—no loud music or parties, and generator use is limited to specific times.

Quiet, rustic and a great fire pit, Worthy of a respectful campfire.
We drive a 25' motorhome to the site. About 20 minutes each way over some primitive roads, but we found it worth it.
I understand that Justin has owned the property for a little over a year and I have no doubt there will be improvements season after season.

We loved our stay here! Berny is an incredible host. Warm and welcoming and full of great information about the area. And her pot pies, smoked pulled pork, and cinnamon buns were amazing—all delivered hot right to our campsite! And the site was awesome: beautiful, with the best outhouse you’ll ever use. We loved the hike to the river overlook too. Go!

Another season has wrapped up at Blacksmith Landing and I definitely left the camp very emotional! We absolutely love this place. The campground is immaculate, so well taken care of. Every activity you might want to do is close by, more beautiful lakes to choose from than you have time for! The owners are the most hospitable, lovely people (with the best stories!) and the FOOD. Worth the trip on it's own. Our entire family cherishes every weekend here and we can't wait until next season!!!!

We had a lovely stay at HipCamp - a great way to break up our road trip. Brent and Stuart went above and beyond to welcome us and ensure we had everything we needed. You can see that they take great pride in their place and in hosting guests. For instance the outhouses were extremely clean and were decorated so that you did not feel like you were using an outhouse.

We absolutely loved our time at Bernie & Stuart's! They were incredibly warm and welcoming, and we're so grateful they opened up their stunning property to campers, like us. We purchased & were treated to a delicious meal and treats from Bernie.
The hike on the property to the breathtaking Kootenay River view was a highlight, as was finding the charming tree book nook. For anyone boondocking, Bernie's "cutest little loo" is a huge plus!
We highly recommend staying here!! You will love it!

Our time at Cept Ranch was wonderful, it is so quiet, beautiful views, the lake was wonderful. The ride in is a bit rough, but totally doable. If you enjoy being off grid, this place is fabulous. The host Justin was very accommodating and super great to deal with.

The hosts were so lovely and welcoming! They were very helpful in getting us additional drinking water when needed, and were very accommodating helping us get a site that was right for my (special) dogs and myself with advance requests. I would definitely recommend.
Only thing to note is that thew geographic region is inherently very dusty due to very small particle soil (mostly silt), so be prepared for many things to be very dusty when camping in the region regardless ;)

Bernie and Stuart are such wonderful people. You can really feel and are that they put their heart and soul in running the campground. They waited for us at the gate (as they do for every camper!!) and gave us a warm welcome.
In the morning we ordered some home made cinnamon rolls and they were delicious. After that we took a walk towards the campground ridge (about 20mins) and enjoyed the breath taking views of the Kootenay river.

The best great views camping near Kimberley guide
When to go
While in the continental climate zone, Kimberley is protected from strong arctic fronts by the surrounding mountain ranges. They shelter the town from extreme cold but also create a rain shadow, which ups yearly precipitation—that means that even in the dry months (July and August), there will be rainy days. In December and January, the temperature dips down to -12°C, so if you want milder temperatures for camping, aim for the June-September window.
Know before you go
- If flying in from out of province, entering the Kootenays from Calgary is the most straightforward route. Take the TransCanada west to Golden, Highway 95 south to Skookumchuck, and finally Highway 95A south. It's about a 4.5-hour drive from Calgary, but over 10 hours from Vancouver.
- The nearest airport, Canadian Rockies International Airport (YXC), is 16km away in Cranbrook, and has flights to Kelowna, Vancouver, and Calgary.
- Kimberley is a bustling resort town, so you should be able to get all your basic supplies here. It is remote though, so if you need specialist gear, bring it with you.
