We arrived at the camp and were greeted by a disorganised and very disappointing campsite. There were horse floats and cars parked randomly with no thought to where campers would be staying. The camp is just the carpark for the business and is stuck between two houses and a shed.. The house on the left is clearly visibly from the campsite and the road and is less than inviting with stuff strewn all over the yard. We did not feel comfortable staying there and we decided to leave and find alternative accommodation. As an overnight stop it might be ok but not for an extended stay as we had booked.

Spacious and you literally wake up to the most amazing sunrise . The sites are generous and you can view the camels which love a but of stale bread . Such a great stay

Nice enough area but, very uncomfortable being between two house, not private at all. Almost felt like we were being supervised at all times. Felt unorganised and rude.

Capricorn Camel Camp - Unpowered
We had a lovely two nights at Capricorn Camel Camp. It was such a great experience to be surrounded by all the animals and John was an absolute legend of a host! He was generous with his time and help and he was a wonderful storyteller. Our kids loved their camel ride and we enjoyed fossicking as a family and we learned alot.

We had a great stay at Capricorn camel camp. The kids absolutely loved all the animals and didn't want to leave! The welcoming dog, Trigger, slept under our van and was always so excited to see us coming down the driveway.
John was lovely and saddled up one of the camels for the kids to ride.
It was also a quick drive to Koorana Croc Farm and Yeppoon.

Absolutely beautiful spot! We parked up sideways so we had a front view of the camels. We were the only campers and it was great! We fossicked and found a whole bunch of sapphires and of course the camel ride. What a great experience! The hosts are amazing and full of knowledge we learnt so much about the camels and fossicking. First off we noticed no trees on or near the camp areas and had a minor panic attack but once we were set up it wasn’t that hot. So many animals to see- ostrich, camels, donkeys, miniature horses, sheep, geese, chickens, cows and of course Trigger. Loved it and will definitely recommend it to friends!

I cannot recommend this camp more highly! A great little farmstay with a HEAP of different animals to hang out with. John is one of the most wonderful people I’ve ever met in my life and he was so good with the kids. We’re definitely going to miss this camp, but more importantly, we’re going to miss Trigger the dog!

This was a unique experience for us and exceeded expectations.
The property is well maintained, private and plenty of animals to keep the kids occupied. We had a fire , watched the sunset over the hill and amazed at the abundance of stars in the night sky.
The kids thoroughly enjoyed fossicking for gems. John is a genuine, loveable character with a wealth of knowledge on all things mining gems and camels.
Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Johns place.

What a great find this camp was. We all enjoyed camping amongst all the animals, the kids even got to fed the camels. John was very friendly and accomodating. He even showed the kids how to fossick for Sapphires!

Our stay has been a highlight of our trip! John met us on arrival and we knew straight away we were in good hands! He is a great Aussie bloke who genuinely was happy to spend time with us (especially talking to our two children about the animals and Sapphires). We went on a camel ride and fossicked for sapphires in the area John has set up! It was lovely being greeted by a couple of camels, sheep, geese and Trigger the dog each morning!

Such a fun spot to stay. We only stayed for one night on our way through to Airlie Beach.
John (Matt I’d Dad) is a great host and has lots of stories to tell about Sapphire hunting. a
The camels 🐪 are fantastic and next time we will definitely stay longer.

What a cool place to stay . We stayed two nights and had a camel ride as well. John is a top bloke lots of great stories and makes you feel like your an old friend coming to visit. Loved the dog as well he and our dog had a great time together.

Loved seeing the animals and meeting the old fella whom runs the hipcamp, our timing wasn’t great so unfortunately we didn’t get to experience all that was on offer namely the camel rides.
The camp site could be more secluded but as far as a farm stay, it’s what was expected.
We had a lovely time and loved our tour of all the animals

Wonderful host and happy to have a yarn. The kids loved the animals. Take good mozzie spray though, they are vicious after sunset.

Wow! What an amazing and unique stay at The Big Camel. Our large, flat site was right opposite the camel pens. During our stay we were treated to being able to pat the camels, watched goat races, geese wondered through our camp site and a we enjoyed a fire at night. John the owner also entertained us with stories of his camel racing days. A truly memorable experience!

I camped with my 12 year old, it was great. Johns just a good old typical Aussie, approachable, made us feel welcome and comfortable. Ben also is a great kid, explained a lot about the camels and other animals. Not only did we do camel ride but also got a bit of an education lesson on all the animals my son loved it. Topped that off with a game of cricket, who can beat that.The views where wonderful close to town but yet far enough out that one gets to experience serenity and beauty in the surrounding views.

Perfect place to camp just outside of Rocky, and close to Yeppoon. We loved our stay and the host was awesome, plus we got to help feed the animals and did some fossicking and did the camel ride around the property.

What a great little place to stay at, Camel Rides, panning for Saphires… John the host is just great and ensures you are well looked after. Must be self contained though. Thanks John ☺️
