A canal-side shepherd's hut near the Lincolnshire Wolds, with an outdoor bathtub, a mini vineyard, and total privacy.

Bain View Glamping provides luxury camping with a wild side in a stylish Lincolnshire site. Enclosed in a tiny private vineyard, the well-equipped shepherd's hut provides access to a truly beautiful farm space, with canal frontage and wonderful views. Wake up to the sound of sheep and cows in the neighbouring fields and relax with a glass of wine in the outdoor 'bush bath' beside your hut.

Bain View takes full advantage of its lush surroundings by providing plenty of ways to enjoy the great outdoors. There's a firepit over beside the pond, letting you cook up your food with a view, and there's outdoor seating for al fresco dining. The facilities are also impressive while remaining eco-conscious – there's a well-equipped kitchen and a full bathroom with a rain shower, compost toilet, and biodegradable toiletries. And what about lazing in the hammock with your dog? Your four-legged friends will love exploring the area and you can leave them to happily play in a fenced-off area.

The titular River Bain runs alongside the site, letting you embark on a waterside walk to the picturesque market town of Horncastle, which has a variety of great pubs and cafes along with a diverse range of independent shops. The town is backed by the Lincolnshire Wolds, providing over 200 miles of spectacular scenery to explore; travel through it to reach the Georgian town of Louth, hailed as a prime destination for foodies given its fantastic restaurants and lively weekly markets.

Vineyard Shepherds Hut
Beautiful Relaxing space
Beautiful site and space inside. It was so good to have the fencing around the vineyard and let our little dog roam around off lead. Really good facilities inside, kitchen and bathroom were great. The road is a little busy (not that that’s reflected in my review) just so people know. There are nice walks locally and Horncastle is really close by. It was such a relaxing stay and the owners and really helpful and friendly. We will defiantly return!

Vineyard Shepherds Hut
We had a fabulous couple of nights at Bain view, it’s a well set out site, the Vineyard hut has a great private garden. The Hut is very comfortable, lovely hot shower and very well equipped, the owners seems to have thought of most things. There is some road noise, but the views more the make up for that. For us, some comfortable outdoor chairs on the decking would complete a very nice Hut.

Colonial Bell Tent
Family of 4 first time Glampers.
We stayed in the bell tent, 2 adults and 2 smaller children. We all had an excellent time getting back to the things that count. Family meals cooked on the well supplied kitchenette and BBQ and relaxing as the sun goes down in the comfortable surroundings. Lexi has set the place up perfectly, everything very eco friendly but at the same time to a super high standard. We would all definitely stay again.

Idilic Stay
A very beautiful stay!! I would highly recommend Bain View Glamping, it’s perfect for families, romantic getaways or even if you just want to escape solo. The three pods are very thoughtfully placed, you don’t even notice there are other people there. I’ve already booked my next visit!

Vineyard Shepherds Hut
A beautiful way to escape
After a really busy start to 2023, with a few buckets of stress and a lot of long hours of work we made the decision to escape for the long Easter weekend. We wanted somewhere quiet, peaceful, off grid and surrounded by natural beauty and Bain View absolutely delivered. The Shepherds Hut was welcoming and cosy and had everything you might need for an enjoyable stay. The bed was comfortable, the log burner kept us warm and the views were absolutely incredible. Sat outside, with a glass of wine, watching the sun set over the fields of sheep and wild rabbits we really felt all the stress melt away. The stars at night were simply stunning due to the lack of light pollution and we absolutely loved the eco friendly philosophy of the site. Lexi was a super informative, friendly and helpful host and we felt at home straight away. The site is really dog friendly, especially the shepherds hut which is fenced in so your dog can explore off lead plus there’s loads of great walking routes close by which we made the most of. All in all, a wonderful, soul nourishing weekend away.

Colonial Bell Tent
Family Glamping Trip
We (2 Adults & 2 Children (8 & 9)) loved our little weekend getaway at Bain View Glamping, staying in the Colonial Bell Tent. From before, throughout our stay and up to leaving, Lexi and Charles were great in accommodating our requests. Lots of space around the tent, as well as the facilities - The wood fire kept us warm, as did the hot shower and fire pit! Short drive to a selection of good pubs.

From the host
Located on a 5 acre pasture with pond and canal frontage, Bain View Glamping is a small peaceful site with only 3 luxurious glamp pods: The Colonial Bell Tent, Vineyard Shepherds Hut and Hut Tanganyika. All units have a private shower, eco loo and kitchen, are solar powered, dog friendly and are fully furnished for your comfort. Situated on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds (AONB) and 5 min drive from Horncastle, it's perfect for walkers and those looking for a countryside break. With undisturbed sunset views, pour yourself a drink and light the fire for an evening under a canopy of stars.
Nearby attractions

Horncastle is only a 5-minute drive away or, if you're feeling adventurous, just over an hour's walk along the River Bain. The town is famed for its antiques, with it brimming with shops letting you purchase some unique goods. Wolds Wildlife Park is also located in the town, providing a fantastic wildlife experience featuring a variety of animals, from lions to brown bears. For walks, you're right next to the river, or you can take a 10-minute drive to the Spa Trail, a popular peaceful walk from Woodhall to Horncastle notable for the many sculptures that line the route.

Food and drink

Horncastle has plenty of places to eat and drink, including a number of popular pubs. The Kings Head should be top of your list, sitting in the centre of the town's Bull Ring and unmissable thanks to its thatched roof (it is known locally as "The Thatch"). It's been around for centuries, as is evident from its low ceilings, with appropriately vintage decor and a nice open fire. For food in the evening, head to Shakesby's, which serves traditional British food with a modern twist in a warm and welcoming environment. The menu is constantly evolving, and its popularity means booking is advised (01507 526626). Foodies really should head a little further out to Louth, where steak lovers won't forget The Ranch Steakhouse and Grill, an award-winning restaurant serving the finest cuts of meat in a cool American-styled setting. Again, bookings are advised (01507 606889).
