It is just near the beautiful tourist town of Daylesford in central Victoria and an hour and a half by car from Melbourne. The property features a large dam that is suitable for swimming and canoeing/kayaking. The sites have great views of the water and the undulating bush. In spring wildflower walks on the property are a highlight but it's enjoyable to explore all year round. Our home is atop a hill with peaceful and serene 360 degree views to die for. The property in Waterloo is a 200-acre working farm with Murray Grey cattle and Cheviot sheep, and, of course, many kangaroos.
We have a campsite available near the house, under a beautiful Yellow Box tree. Power is available if required. Alternatively, one or two bedrooms are available in an independent wing of the house with a private bathroom and toilet.
There are cafes and eateries in Beaufort which is only 10 kilometres away. The town also provides a supermarket, hotel, chemist, hardware store, and butcher shop, with many other spots of interest. The railway station has regular services to Ballarat and Melbourne which take 1 to 2 hours journey. The Pyrenees Wine region is also on the doorstep. A public dump point is available in Beaufort.
Yellow Box Hill is backed by the State Forest so there are ample walking trails, as well as in the Mt. Cole area. Information about the region is available at the Beaufort Community Resource Centre and Library. Gold detecting is very popular as Waterloo was a gold-mining town in the 1850's. Surely, there has been some left behind!

Maxine is such a genuine and kind host, we felt like we were visiting an old friend! She was so fantastic with my two kids, and so generous with her time. She has sheep, cows, cats, dogs, a horse and even a rescue hare! Her four dogs are so friendly and well behaved - when we left, my kids were really sad to leave the dogs behind. The views from her house are really breathtaking, and it is such a beautiful quiet spot. Thanks Maxine for a lovely stay xx

Great set up with the camp kitchen, Echidna cabin, drop toilet and water tanks, plus lots of other extras.

4 nights at Lovely Bush Property
Staying at the echidna retreat was extremely peaceful and relaxing, the facilities and amenities provided were clean, tidy and plentiful. Clear instructions were provided on the listing, by the host and on instructional paper in the accommodation.
The views, weather and animals surrounding were beautiful as well as the local towns which were rich in culture and provided plenty of site seeing opportunities. The stars were unbelievable and bright as well. We saw an echidna within 5 minutes of our arrival and kangaroos greeted us every morning before the sun fully rose.
Would highly recommend to any people looking to have a peaceful stay away from all the noise and pollution of city living.

Beautiful and clean. The mini golf was a big hit (no pun intended), and the little quaint indoor stove kept the cabin warm on a cold night. Ian was friendly, communicative, and checked in regularly to ensure we were ok. The block is easy to find, and there is plenty of tank water available. The bush kitchen was cute, and the table near the fire pit was lovely to sit at. The cabin has enough beds and chairs for family.

The view is simply stunning, and the animals (horse,dogs, cows, sheep, cats even hares) stole our hearts! My daughter and I had the best time ever. Weekend Trip to Lalgambook Retreat
We recently stayed in Vanessa the Vintage Van at the beautiful Lalgambook Retreat over a long weekend, and while it turned out to be the wettest weekend imaginable, we had a truly memorable experience.
Perched on a picturesque property overlooking a serene dam, the van itself is absolutely charming—originally styled, incredibly comfortable, and had everything you could possibly need for a cozy stay. Despite the unexpected cold snap, our experience was warm and welcoming thanks to the wonderful hosts, who went above and beyond by providing extra blankets and a heater to keep us comfortable.
Although the rain kept us indoors for most of the time - when we weren’t navigating Daylesford - we genuinely enjoyed the peaceful, snug atmosphere and left already planning our return. Next time, we’re looking forward to making the most of the property, hosting a fire pit, taking nature walks, and spotting the local wildlife.
Vanessa is a little gem in a truly special setting. Highly recommend for anyone after a unique, restful retreat—rain or shine!

If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway surrounded by nature, Echidna Retreat Cabin is the perfect choice. Tucked away in the woods, it’s an ideal spot for a small group of 2–3 people to relax and unwind. The cozy retreat is made even better with a mini golf course on-site and breathtaking views of the Milky Way at night, truly the cherry on top of an already wonderful experience! It’s a great budget-friendly escape, and we’re incredibly grateful to Ian for sharing his beautiful property with us.

Weekend Trip to Earth’s Edge
My 2 friends and I had a beautiful stay at Little Pattie! Everything was lovely and clean, and the outlook onto paddocks, hills and gorgeous animals was picturesque. We also lucked out with the weather but would have easily enjoyed the covered deck in the event of rain.
The hot tub was one of the many highlights, we'll definitely be back!
