The Riverland is an amazing place to visit, full of so many surprises! The variety in the landscape, from harsh limestone plains to beautiful rolling sandhills, to the beauty of the Murry River. There is so much wildlife to see especially when it comes to bird watching! And the area is full of history! In every town you will discover many historical facts and buildings, machines etc. We even have histroy right here on our property!-ruins of an old school. Oh, do I hear you love taking your horse out for trail rides? Well, here's the perfect place for that too! At the campsite - approx 2km away from the farmhouse - you have the privilege of being surrounded by natural scrublands and habitats on the plains. See our mallee, acacias, sugar woods, grevilleas, honeyeaters, wrens, finches, kangaroos, emus & more. And don't forget the stars!! Our night sky is amazing due to very low light interference. At times, wake up to the sounds of sheep bleating and drinking from the trough a few hundred meters away. We have a central campfire area for each site and a double sink connected to river water for washing up and a large prep area on sites 1 & 2. Also on site 1 & 2, just a short walk from the camp fire is an outdoor flushing toilet with hand basin-a luxury for a station stay! Often there are things happening on the farm. Feel welcome to ask if there is anything you can be a part of to add to your holiday experience! We may be moving sheep, shearing, crutching, fencing, feeding the farm animals, milking our house goats etc. Even come for a horse ride (further info in 'Extras")! Well behaved dogs are welcome, but please discuss this with us prior to booking and they must be on a lead at all time. Sites are family friendly. From camp, you can take in wide, open views across rolling hills and distant ridgelines, accompanied by the dry creeks which make a great setting for a lovely stroll creating the perfect backdrop for a peaceful getaway. Whether you’re after a quiet spot to relax or a place to explore the outdoors, this campsite provides a genuine bush setting with plenty of room to unwind under the star filled open sky. It has plenty to offer with very secluded sites with maximum privacy. All sites are equipped with a very generous camping area, ideal for bigger groups. Preferably suited to off-road caravans and campers but still accessible by an everyday vehicle. Ruff Run Camping is for self contained units or feel free to use natures toilet! Nice and quiet spot with a fire pit and plenty of privacy. We didn't see or hear a car or other person during our stay - it was awesome to not be packed in like a sardine like in the public camp grounds that you still need to pay to stay at. We will be back!

2 nights at Ruff Run Camping

We loved our stay at Toby’s Hipcamp as we’ve visited that area many times staying at Burra Creek Gorge at Worlds End etc. But to have such spacious rolling hills interesting farmland to ourselves we felt privileged and didn’t leave Ruff Run for the whole time. The simple things like walking up the escarpment to magnificent views sitting by a great fire pit with dry wood supplied and enjoying the cacophony of birds at times. It was pure magic and great for the soul to get away from hectic living. Thanks Toby. You couldn’t be more helpful. Cheers

If you love peace and quiet the this is the place! Around 5km off the main road. Running water in toilet an unexpected bonus in a remote camp. Very friendly communications with the owners. Also a fantastic spot for star gazers. Only minor downside is that lack of rain has left the site a bit dusty.

2 nights at Stockyard Plains, The Riverland

We had a great time at stockyard plains. The site was nice and secluded but still had some luxuries like a flushable toilet and sink with running water to prep meals and clean up. Leanne and the family were super helpful and our boys loved meeting the animals, going on a horse ride and playing with their young boys. We also found that this was a good base to explore some of the Barossa’s wineries and other great areas in the River Lands. We will definitely be back and will stay a bit longer.
