This property is in Northangera with the Mongarlowe River running along the boundary. It's covered in trees and provides a pristine environment amongst the "Scribbly Gums". It has flat areas with plenty of free timber for the designated fire pits. I have tried to create a haven for wildlife including Kangaroos, wombats, echidnas and platypus. I cherish the cleanliness of the river and surrounds and wish to be able to share this special environment with others who care to preserve all it offers. You can explore the property along the tracks, paddle, swim or fish in the river, enjoy the fauna, wildlife and birdlife.
Located not far from Braidwood, a town steeped in history, with good shopping, coffee shops and great food.
Sloping to flat land amongst the Scribbly Gum trees offering a number of sites and walks through the property. It provides both sun and shade. Access is good for vans of any size along a track through the bushland.
Lovely swimming spots in the Mongalowe River, beautiful clear water, and several lovely bushwalks around the property.
There is only Telstra reception available in this area.

Merigan Farm is a 1400 Hectare (3500 acre) working sheep and cattle farm. Our family has lived at Merigan for more than 50 years. It has been a farm since the 1840s and we still run sheep and cattle in a regenerative manner, to this day. It’s a pleasure to be able to share the countryside and farm with guests.
We currently offer two accommodation options:
Cherry Tree - A cabin with a beautiful farm outlook. With a bookcase full of books and a fire pit for cosy evenings, it's the perfect escape.
The Quarters - A private section of the old farmhouse offering rural charm and a perfectly comfortable stay.
Merigan is the name of the local Parish and on Ngunawal country. It has been recounted by indigenous locals that Merigan means Dingo. The story being that Merigan fought the Bunyip and in their tussle created the rivers and creeks across the range.
It’s a southern Australian Mediterranean environment with distinct seasons – it can reach over 42 degrees and in the winter its been known often to snow. Sometimes in summer the easterly sea breezes reaches over the range and the smell of sea salt cools the hot evening.
Merigan offers a range of activities, to relax and settle into rural life. One of the best ways to get the feel of Merigan is just taking a walk around the property. We have 3500 acres of space to meander around and a great spots for picnics, drinks and photographs. Feel free to use the Tennis Court, balls and racquets under one of the verandas at the front of the house and the bocce court at the bottom of the garden.
Bungendore, 18km away, is a thriving little country town with Galleries, gift-shops, cafés, bakeries, coffee shops and bars. The Top Pub (The Royal ) is the more casual of the hotels. The Bottom Pub (The Lake George) has a fancy restaurant attached to the more informal pub area.
Braidwood is a funky Heritage town about 25km East of Bungendore and well worth a visit. It has outstanding shops and eateries and 2 pubs. The Braidwood Hotel being my favourite.
Tarago is 14km away. The Loaded Dog do meals but mainly on weekends (Pizzas during the week). Best to check as it varies.
Other local attractions include Lark Hill Winery, Lerida Estate Winery, Turlla Truffles and Bungendore Woodworks.

The Den and surrounding deck is your space you can access from the driveway where there is plenty of parking space. Your pets are welcome. We charge $20 per pet per stay. However the donkeys may chase or hurt them or vice versa so they must be kept out of the paddocks where the donkeys are. We do have a donkey free paddock for dogs right opposite the donkey den. We ask that dogs are not left alone in the donkey den should you leave the property and you have access to a pen to leave your dog in if you cannot take your dog with you.

We loved our stay at The Shack. It feels wonderfully secluded while still being close to town. The sounds of Lyrebirds, Gang-gang Cockatoos, and the creek flowing nearby made it a truly relaxing escape.
Being right on the river was a highlight, and the generous supply of firewood for both the indoor fireplace and outdoor fire pit kept us warm on the chilly nights.
For anyone who enjoys camping but appreciates a little extra comfort and warmth, The Shack is a fantastic option. We would happily stay again.

Really enjoyed our two night stay at The Shack, large amount of firewood provided which warmed the shack perfectly on the cold and frosty winter nights. Really handy to have the kitchen stocked with everything you need to cook with, just bring your own food etc. Perfect escape to enjoy my 60th birthday. Lyrebirds were visiting us constantly, thanks for having us Phil, will be back for sure.

We had such a beautiful time here. The best spot for some R&R! Surrounded by beautiful bush land and a good spot for a swim in the river right out the front.
The cabin was nice and cosy and the indoor fireplace was such a bonus. All of the kitchen essentials were provided which was great so we could pack lightly!

I spent a beautiful and peaceful few days at the River Shack. The Shack was super tidy and well organised, right on the banks of the river. I had a family of wombats, amazing birdlife and 2 platypus for company! It was totally serene - a fantastic place to escape and recharge.

Equip with all the basics, we had a perfect weekend ‘camping’ without having to worry about bringing any gear other than linen, food and drinks. Phil’s place by the Mongarlowe River is a great place to relax and enjoy some tranquility. The river is really beautiful and the tracks around the property provide for a nice walk if you want to stretch your legs. Definitely recommend.

What a wonderful, restorative escape! Such a top spot by the river. Amazing swimming hole for hot days. Saw platypuses, a wombat and water dragons. Simple, rustic, perfect shack. So well positioned; had everything we needed. Good walking nearby. Looking forward to going back already. Phil was a great host.

We loved the River Shack at Phils! The water had the perfect little swimming and fishing holeright in front of the shack. The resident platypus visited every day which was SO cool. Spent our evenings by the fire outside. The outdoor sink and cooking set up meant we barely had to use our own kit which was super convenient.

The shack is in such a beautiful spot, it felt very private (except for the bird life!). The river is absolutely beautiful to swim in and we were lucky enough to see the platypus swimming about. The shack has a double burner gas cooker and a little camping single burner that can be used outside as well. It was a great place to stay even with a bit of rain, with a cosy fire that kept us warm inside. There’s a bit of wildlife about, no reception and no toilets apart from a bucket in an outhouse so as long as that’s not a problem for you, you will have a wonderful escape from the outside world!!!

Love the Shack, the inside and outside of the Shack is clean and tidy. The property is very near the river and my 2 sons enjoyed swimming and fishing in the river.
The Shack have a fireplace inside for cold nights.
The environment is very quite and serene. Very relaxing place to camp.
