We raise a small herd of dairy goats and sheep and egg laying chickens. The herd is pastured all over our land and forest with electric fencing. Guests are welcome to join me as I bring the herd out to the field in the mornings after milking and back again in the evening time to the barn. We also grow a lot of vegetables and fruit and depending on the time of year you may be able to purchase some of the produce we sell at our local farmer's market.Just a 10 minute drive from the highway I5, we are a 7 acre farmstead with goats, sheep and chickens, surrounded by neighboring forests and farms. You can bike into the quaint town of Cottage Grove just 2 miles from us, or bike into the scenic hills of Loraine. You can park your trailer on the gravel driveway, or you can pitch your tent on a private site in the field nearby, under a grand Oak and surrounded by nature. In the mornings one of us might be in the field scything, moving electric fencing or herding the goats and sheep. With a couple days notice, depending on our work that day, you may be able to join us during feedings, milking or herding of the goats. We enjoy sharing the farm with guests but we also have a lot of work to accomplish each day:) We do scythe our grass so we ask guests to stay on paths or the gravel driveway. However, Gowdyville Road is pretty quiet and many of us in the neighborhood like to walk our dogs, run or bike on the road. I usually bike to the farmer's market on Saturday hauling my veggies and salves in a trailer. We have two friendly dogs, Ixchel (pronounced like Michelle) and Possum. Mama and pup. They both love people but bark a lot when they first greet people. If you watch them closely they are most likely bringing you a stick to throw for them. But, do wait to give them attention until they sit quietly so they don't get used to getting their way by barking.
