Fire and Stars at Ancient Future
Good Times
Awesome host with a lovely family and farm. The site is relatively new and being updated, so I won’t be too critical. The area was a little too small for my family of thirteen, so I would consider that if you have a large group. It’s secluded with a beautiful view of the night sky and we were able to make as much noise we wanted; which was nice with a lot kids. Driving an SUV is a must to deal with the mountain road without having a mini heart attack. Although, it was cool to have their dogs give us a friendly escort up and down the trail. It’s a nice place, but due to the proximity of the camp site to the home it felt more like camping in the backyard than the forest.

Fire and Stars at Ancient Future
Not quite the Nature experience I was hoping for, but a decent spot to setup a few tents (5 max), have a fire, cook a meal, and relax by a small creek.

Fire and Stars at Ancient Future
When you get to the property, it is beautiful, but 4 wheel drive vehicle or mad off road skills on the gnarliest road imaginable are needed to get up there. The field we camped in was maintained and there was an abundance of pollinators and goldfinches. The toilet had some issues the second day. This, combined with the road giving me anxiety, caused us to cut our stay one day short. I should note that I have spent a considerable amount of time driving on roads in the Navajo Nation and rural VA, so it is not that I am a stranger to poorly maintained roads, this road is among the worst I have seen.

Fire and Stars at Ancient Future
Alana and Peter are the super sweet hosts at Creekside Meadow @AncientFuture. They are very friendly and hospitable and have two kids, an awesome dog, and chickens that are always running around and playing on the property. One thing that Alana seemed very knowledgeable of was all of the edible and medicinal plants and herbs that grow in and around their several gardens. The property itself is quite large and very beautiful. The main camp area is adjacent to a small creek and has a garden, fire pit, pool, and two picnic tables. There are a couple nice flat spots that you can pitch a tent in, and there is also a neat 3-D hexagon shaped platform structure that they will let you set up camp in. I am not sure if the shape of the structure would allow for a very large tent, but it might be worth a try to get off of the wet morning grass. Alana and Peter's land is nestled in a valley and expands for 26 acres up the mountainside. There is a road that goes further up the valley which leads to some overgrown trails that lead to the top of the mountain. Furthermore, they are located only 30-35 minutes away from downtown Asheville so this makes for a fun and convenient location that is close in proximity to both great restaurants and breweries and some awesome hikes. If the Asheville area is on your list of future destinations and you are willing to car/tent camp, Creekside Meadow is the place to be.
