Colby's Ridgeview Cabin, Maine

This cabin was hand built by Rollie Skidgell and his sons over the span of a few years about 40 years ago. They cut hemlock logs from the surrounding hills, hand peeled them and set them one at a time. The great room was built first and the bunk room added a few years later. Many family Thanksgiving dinners have been cooked and enjoyed within these solid walls. Part of our love for this cabin comes from the countless life-long memories made here by many people. There has even been a marriage made here, when two of my neighbors met here at a hunting party!
I bought the cabin in 2009 after returning to my home state of Maine from 10 years in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The energy in the Carthage area reminds me of the vast wilderness of the Rockies and the log cabins in the backcountry mountain towns.

The hardy construction of this beautiful place just doesn’t compare to stick-frame construction. It creates a warm ambiance like only a log cabin can have.
In 2011 my first and only child was born. At the time, the cabin had become basically a log shack with plywood floors and homemade windows. Colby’s diagnosis of Down syndrome motivated me to spend several years renovating the place into the lovely hideaway it is now - as a rental property than can help to support his needs.
Now, this cabin resides in a trust for the well being of my bright, beautiful little boy who is changing the world with his amazing abilities and huge heart. Relax, unplug, unwind, recharge, refresh. We wish you a wonderful stay in Colby’s Ridgeview Cabin. Remember we are available anytime to assist you.
A special energy surrounds this place. Don’t’ be surprised if you are called back, over and over!
