GECKO GULCH--MOUNTAIN BIKE HEAVEN
Memorial Day weekend
Open space all around, small place inside so get cozy. Effortless replacement of porta potty swap and rubbish. Access to North Desert via 18 road - refer to map as we went off track a few times, but 18 road … is better as it is relatively smooth. There is an exciting 4wd drive through a small 5 ft seasonal wash runout to North Desert if you like short cuts.

Great Stay
Awesome spot. Beautiful scenery and the little cabin was great to get out of the wind.

Fantastic views and access to BLM land! Great place to crash while doing some biking in fruita. Big bonus for being dog friendly. Patti was a delight to work with.

GECKO GULCH--MOUNTAIN BIKE HEAVEN
The little cabin at Gecko Gulch is basic - no water or electricity, two chairs nailed to the floor, a boat- type toilet outside, along with a picnic table and a hammock. However, the lack of amenities is made up for by the privacy and isolation. Views across the rolling desert grasslands to the Book Cliffs to the north and Colorado National Monument to the south, particularly at sunrise and sunset, are priceless. Lying in the hammock after dark and looking up at the blazing night stars was magical.

Beautiful, peaceful setting
Patti's directions were very clear. The setting is stunning - high desert with the mountain backdrop. Very peaceful. Great star gazing.
There is a little cabin should you need to shelter or prefer to sleep indoors. We will return when in the area.

Remote and Peaceful
This is an unusual getaway that takes you up and over gravel roads to a cool, remote spot in the rural area of Fruta.
The quiet is seductive. The little house/shed would be useful for some, but we had a van to sleep in. Hammock, compost toilet and tarp were useful.
Not on bicycle trails but 6 + miles to get to them.
We enjoyed the two-night stay — feeling far away.
