This campsite has an incredible view of Mt. Shavano. It's located on top of a mesa with sounds of the north fork of the south Arkansas River each night and just a short hike away. There are easy trails on the property where you can hike and view wildlife-many birds, chipmunks, deer, occasional elk, and even a free-roaming llama! The property backs up to the San Isabel National Forest for miles of additional hiking and biking trails right from the property.

It's a stargazers' paradise with little-to-no light pollution. Often times, you can see the Milky Way at night.

The property owners live here, but want you to have as much privacy as you'd like. This is a place to retreat and enjoy the beautiful Colorado outdoors.

Dive into a little bit of history and see the remnants of Ute Native American graves and the original 1880's Maysville cemetery-a once-thriving mining town located on the southern side of the property.

This property is nine miles from downtown Salida and nine miles to Monarch Mountain.

There are tons of summer outdoor activities nearby such as white water rafting, mountain biking, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, hiking, and a zip line & ropes course. There is an available paddleboard onsite (with an optional outfitted converted van) for an additional expense. Winter outdoor activities nearby include skiing, snowboarding, and tubing at Monarch Mountain, snowmobiling, and backcountry skiing.

O' Haver Lake is 12 miles/15 minutes from the property and is a wonderful place to enjoy non-motorized water sports, hiking and fishing.

If you're up for a 4x4 challenge, you can drive 10 miles up CR 240 for beautiful views and water activities at the North Fork Reservoir. It's a very difficult drive, but worth it!

We had a great long weekend here with another family - we were in a 23 ft hybrid camper trailer and the other family was in tents. It was definitely more "roughing it" than in standard campgrounds but mostly in a good way! No one right next to you, quiet at night. The ground is a little rough with rocks, ground plants and cactus, but we didn't mind, and Mars was super accommodating to move anything that was giving us trouble. Do watch out for bigger rocks if you are bringing a trailer - there are plenty but it's easy enough to avoid the ones you should. The group site was well marked and easy to find - big with a large circular open area. We also could have put tents back in the trees on a smoother forest floor, though we opted not to do that. The kids had a great time exploring the area behind the site. Wonderful views and not terribly far from town if you forget anything essential. Good idea to bring a shade tent if you have one. Stargazing was epic - fantastic view of the Neowise comet! We used the paddle board they have available at nearby Ohaver Lake and that was a favorite part of the trip. We'd go back for sure!

Mars and Ash were wonderful camp hosts - they improved land in spots that were more shaded to provide us with more comfortable and private areas for our tents. They answered questions of things to do/places to go, and could not have been more accommodating. The views were amazing, the campsite was private... now only if it hadn't rained at night, the stargazing would have been incredible! We'll definitely be back!

This was our first time using Hipcamp and it worked out great! The site was clean and level (we actusally stayed at the Starry Night site because it was more level and available). Ash was very nice and came out to help us sort this out. Beautiful view of Mt. Shavano! Thanks Mars and Ash!
