Shelterwood was an awesome, peaceful stay. The tent was beautiful, clean, and spacious, the king-sized bed was super comfortable, and had nice unexpected touches like a mirror, stylish accents, and luggage racks. Though the fire pit was removed due to high fire risk, I was pleasantly surprised to find a working sink and barbeque grill just for our tent, which made cooking easy. The porta-potty was also well maintained and clean. The property was quiet and peaceful, great for short hikes. The mini front porch of the tent was perfect for reading and hanging out. Of the various tents on the property, I found Acacia to be the most private, so it really felt like we were alone in the forest. Beautiful place to decompress!
David and Elise were excellent hosts. David was very prompt and responsive via email and text before the stay, and was understanding and flexible when we ran into scheduling hiccups, which he helped fix.
Upon arrival, David gave us a quick tour of the tent, and to our surprise, he noticed a rattlesnake 10 ft from us. He very calmly let us know about the situation without panicking, and handled it like a professional. He prioritized our safety and very politely suggested we go on a short walk while he took care of the rattlesnake, even being conscientious about our dog, making sure we were safe from harm. I was super impressed with how David handled the situation and reassured us of our safety throughout the process. I don't know what I would have done if we encountered the snake without David, but I'm extremely grateful he helped us in a big way. Elise was also extremely kind and warm when we ran into her on a hike. They were both incredibly hospitable and I would definitely love to book with them again. I highly recommend it!
Thank you, David & Elise!
Elise and David are great hosts. They were very responsive and when we got there they were very accomodating.
Shelterwood is a wonderful property. The camp area was very clean. I love that there is a grill and running water. It was very nice for first time campers like me and most of our group. I will definitely come back.
David and Elise were wonderful hosts! The property is beautiful, and the tent was exactly as pictured. They were so helpful when finding the place and getting us settled. We would highly recommend!
Beautiful setting, wonderful hosts
We rented several sites for my husband's birthday and it was a wonderful experience. The sites and tents were immaculate and this site in particular was quiet and private. Beautiful surroundings, highly recommended!
Ultimate private glamping luxury
Beautiful lands, secluded, gorgeous tent and furniture, generous and kind hosts, lovely dog who is really good at fetching sticks, and great trails to explore on the property away from the public trails. Made for an extremely romantic weekend. Highly recommend splurging on this glampsite!
Beautiful retreat in the redwoods
We had a wonderful stay at Shelterwood, its a magical spot in the redwoods outside of Healdsburg. We live in the area and really enjoyed the hiking around the property and the peacefulness of being disconnected at the campsite. The bed was super comfy, can't wait to come back!
Splendid solitude in the redwoods
Shelterwood is unimaginably serene and beautiful. It feels really “far out” even though it’s only 15 mins. from downtown Healdsburg. At one point just after sunset the only sounds were the wind in the trees, the nocturnal forest creatures beginning to stir, and the sounds of branches dropping woods/shedding needles...awesome. My husband and I loved hiking through the groves of Madrones and getting off the main roads to hike a few of the smaller trails. We even nibbled a few redwood chutes and wild raspberries on our evening stroll.
David met us and broke down the basic orientation of the property in general and our tent (Acacia: highly recommended!) specifically. We chose Acacia cause the pictures made it look a little more private and charming, which it was. It was also was super comfortable, with a few hangers, hooks, and luggage racks for stuff, a lantern and larger lamp, towels...We slept like little angels in our warm fluffy bed.
To be honest, all the other sites looked great too—we’d love to come back sometime with family or other friends or couples! A stay here is the perfect glamping re-charge, easy to imagine that even people who feel skittish outside or “off the grid” could feel enchanted and at-ease. In all, a great experience!
