Great campground! The kids found a little freshwater creek that they enjoyed even more than the pools. But the pools were an awesome way to cool down as well. The tent camping area is a bit dusty, but otherwise we had a wonderful time.
Forest Test Camping was great! Pine Grove Cobb was a nice area, the bathrooms were clean and accessible. There was a nice little hiking trail by our campsite and a creek close by where our kids waded every day. When it got hot, we jumped in the pool. The neighbors at nearby campsites were very friendly and Joe as our host was great. Would definitely recommend it, and will be coming back! Great family campsite. :)
Joe was a great host - clear, easy instructions on how to find the campsite. It's a great location - close to wineries and Calistoga and also hiking trails at Mt St Helena. We had a lovely weekend escaping San Francisco!
This is a beautiful place with beautiful people and I had an unexpectedly endearing stay here. It wasn’t entirely private for such a far away place, but it was one of the most memorable stays I’ve had. The camp host has zen vibes, the locals are friendly, the nature is beautiful and it feels like visiting a different era.
Old school in every positive way
Like a turn of the century [1900] campground in a beautiful setting - a unique find and a LOT of fun. Super friendly and relaxed. Joe and his team were unfailingly helpful and more than nice - we had a late start but their team was still there to greet us late into the night (!) and help us get settled. Definitively going back.
It’s worth it to reserve a platform
We stayed one night at one of the two wood platforms that are in their own area a bit away from the rest of the campground. They overlook a lovely stream and we’re clean and simple. I would stay at a platform here again but would not want to camp in the main campground which feels busy.
Pitched our tent on one of the beautiful platforms nestled among the trees. The camp grounds were quite full, but we had privacy. It was peaceful, with the exception of saws/maintenance work on the property early Thursday morning. The best part was all the ample shade + pool + no mosquitos during the heatwave. Great experience sleeping under the stars and waking up to the trees. Would love to return with family. Thanks Joe!
Joe and the rest of the staff were super friendly. There are two pools (one spring-fed) on site, as well as a small food stand with some excellent grill food for sale, as well as smoothies and snacks. Bathrooms are clean and well-stocked with showers available. The site has one large communal fire pit. Many tent sites are dispersed among some permanent cabins, but there's a very private area towards the back of the property with tent pads. We'll definitely be coming back!
