We had a great time at Mike’s Desert Oasis. A couple miles down a dirt road, the hilltop campsite provided phenomenal solitude and impressive panoramas. On the hilltop you are surrounded by the desert brush and cactus although there is plenty of room in the site to setup camp (although I’d be careful keep dogs and children from wandering outside the site at all as the cholla are dense and let their spines fall to the ground). It’s a steep but short walk up to the campsite from the restroom (super clean porta-potty) and parking spot. It was great that there was both a fire pit and picnic table at the site.
Sunrise was spectacular every morning and I enjoyed watching the light travel across the surrounding landscape. After that its a short drive into Anza Borrego for hiking, wildflowers, exploring, and 4wheeling. In our February visit it was chilly overnight but warmed up quickly during the day. At times it could be quite breezy, but when it was still, the silence was incredible.
Mike was friendly and very good about answering any questions we had as we prepared for our trip. He has created an excellent spot to escape the business of everyday life in a peaceful and beautiful setting.
I look forwards to coming back next time we stay in the area!

Excellent isolated location with reasonable access to civilization. Highly recommended!

Beautiful location. Very private, quiet, bathroom was great. Store was close too so we could restock on firewood and smores fixings multiple times!
We set up our tent and made a fire and relaxed in the big double chair provided. Spent three days up there. Very private and we loved that. A long way up that hill but either pack light or have a strong vehicle. We brought a shade structure which worked really well. Good hiking trail on public land to the west.
Had a nice time in some pretty country.
Had a wonderful time at Mike's desert oasis. Views were beautiful! Site was very private. Site included picnic table and fire pit. We were able to purchase wood at the local store. Highly recommend!
SUCH a beautiful, private and secluded campsite, absolutely stunning 360 degree views of desert mountains. Mike was the best host we could have asked for - so kind and helpful. Just be prepared to be exposed to the elements up there - lots of wind and direct sun during the day!
Very isolated spot with 360 degree mountain views. Nearly full moon was amazing and gave us all the light we needed during the evenings. Fire pit was great for relaxing and looking out over the canyon as the sun set. Temps were hot during our early July stay but wind kept them manageable. Michael was a very helpful host and very responsive when we had questions. Lovely spot for a small private outing and very nice to feel surrounded by nature.

Beautiful views. Feels very isolated. Gets very hot for a few hours during the day and the wind can be a challenge, but aside from that one of the best camping spots I’ve stayed at. Mike is a great host, very helpful.
