#8 Cherokee - Tent Camping Creek View (on plateau)

This is a family private owned small campground (16 sites only) located on the outskirts of Placerville. The property features 86.5 secluded Tahoe like acres with beautiful year-round Weber Creek. The camp sites are placed along the creek or the bluff overlooking the creek. We have traditional dirt camping, platforms with canvas tents and glamping tents for those that want the comforts of home. Our hallmark is our family teepee! We are all about tent camping – we do not allow travel trailers, campers or van camping.

Now that we have a season under our belts we’ve been told that we have a “family camp” vibe.We are a great place for families wanting a safe environment for their kids but also several group sites for those that want to hang out together. We are also a great base site for those wilderness enthusiasts with access to all the El Dorado National Forest including Desolation but want a hot shower at the end of the day.Tahoe is less than an hour away.We are dog friendly and love our pets but absolutely enforce leash laws to protect your pet as well as the other campers.Due to the nature of our mixed audience camp we also enforce our quiet period from 10 pm to 7 AM.

We have a lodge that is stocked with game tables and every game imaginable along with a ping pong table. The lodge has a Keurig machine and a hot water kettle for those hot drinks (BYO Cups). We have several tables set up for those that want to eat inside as well as multiple picnic tables along the side of the lodge with overhead protection. We’ve been told that our bathrooms are the “cleanest” ever and have changing tables and diaper pails. The showers are nice and cleaned daily.

For outdoor activities we have basketball, volley ball and cornhole not to mention the playground with swing sets, seesaw and tractor play.We also have many outdoor games for meadow play including a tug-a-war rope, gunny sacks, baseballs, gloves and a soccer net.We have hiking trails throughout the property. Our highlight is a camp fire bowl with bench seating with a stage to display camper talent which is perfect for the evening fire and roasting s’mores. We treat our guests to s’mores each Saturday and Tuesday nights! The common area has BBQs – both propane and charcoal as well as a cooking griddle (we also adding a campfire pit in the campfire bowl area for charcoal dutch oven cooking). We are in the wilderness so we have a cool room to store all food at night – yes bears live in the wilderness.

The Creek starts out in the spring looking like a rushing river featuring lots of swimming holes and fishing. However, as the summer evolves it is more of a small creek even though we do dam a portion of it (goes up memorial day weekend and down after labor day) for those that want to use the floating devices we provide (starts out 6 feet and ends up closer to 3 feet). We do not allow individual campfires but have propane fire pits at our glamping sites and group camp sites for ambience – not cooking (glamping sites we provide one propane tank – group sites propane available for purchase).

We are located in the foothills so we are a short hop to many local attractions that include river rafting, gold mines, wineries and historic towns with great eating establishments. There’s always something happened in downtown Placerville. To make things nicer for our guests we have the ability to rent a limited number of tents, cots, individual propane fire pits, BBQs, etc. - anything to make it easier for our campers.  Come give our location a try – we think you’ll enjoy yourselves.

This camp site located directly across the bridge from the lodge and restrooms up the hill on the bluff overlooking the creek.  This site requires you to walk up the hill and  transport your equipment to get to this site.  The site is set up for tent camping and has a propane fire pit that is available for use (you can purchase propane cylinders on site).    Each site has a picnic table.   There is space for two tents.

Please note we adhere to a three day minimum of Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day!

During COVID-19 restrictions we will honor all state and county ordinances.  We will ensure social distancing and will close certain areas such as the lodge and playground area.  We expect all guests to comply as well.

I just have great things to say about Camp Nauvoo. Our group of campers (my wife, a couple of our best friends, our lovely dog, and I) spent an amazing weekend at this place. We highly recommend Camp Nauvoo because it's a campsite located in the middle of nature, with a huge amount of redwoods surrounding the area, a great meadow with tables, volleyball and basketball yards, differents campgrounds, a short trail for hikers, a campers lounge, a couple of BBQs, very decent restrooms; and most important, a beautiful and refreshing creek that flows through the property. Greg and Laurie were incredible hosts! We had a great communication even before we booked, and throughout the experience. Greg waited for us for a late check-in, showed us all the amenities, and let us choose between different campgrounds options. Greg also invited us all to the campfire, where he treated us with smores. He even had a birthday cupcake for a camper. In general, they have created a great experience for novice campers, families, and even pets (yes, they are pet-friendly). We really enjoyed our time there, used everything, and hung out into the water's creek when the temperature was pretty high. OMG! The creek was the best of all! We would love to come back and spend more relaxed time at Camp Nauvoo. Definitely, one of our best camping experiences.

My family had a great stay at camp Nauvoo. We would definitely recommend it for a great family getaway with options from tent camping to glamping. We had a great time floating in the stream and playing games in the lodge. They have tons of games and puzzles that kept our daughter entertained. Greg and Laurie are great hosts. We ended up camping in site 4 next to the stream. It had a canvas platform tent and plenty of room for another tent.

Great location, far enough from town that you can really relax, but close enough to some local swimming holes to not be inconvenient. Greg is a fantastic host, and his enthusiasm makes Camp Nauvoo an incredibly welcoming place. Will definitely be back!

If you’re looking for a quiet family getaway camping on a creek, look up Camp Nauroo! Greg is very nice, wonderfully helpful and accommodating.
Near by is river rafting and hiking as well as a excellent Italian restaurant on the main street in Placerville.

The sound of the rushing river, crickets and the sweet darkness of the woods nourishes you like milk and honey. Connecting with others amidst the soaring trees, watching butterflies float away and all your cares along with them...laughter, reading, playing games and sports, watching kids fish, floating down the creek together, the crackling fire and s'mores, peace in your heart and cooking all your meals outdoors. This is love and a little piece of heaven.
Yes, we've gone camping many times before, but nothing quite like this weekend. Greg is the nicest and most welcoming fellow. He made sure we were comfortable and we really enjoyed our accommodations. But it wasn't just Greg who was great. All of the campers and everyone you met was so nice; we made instant friends with almost everyone - you almost felt like you were camping together. I never have gotten that vibe anywhere else. We will certainly be returning!

Camp Nauvoo was just what we needed. Greg is a fantastic host. The camp is a real treat. We didn't know what to expect and were pleasantly surprised. Keep in mind, this during a time when social distancing and masks are the norm, so some of the amenities were closed, but this didn't affect our enjoyment. I'm excited to come back when it's business as usual. The campsite was large, had a picnic table, and had a propane fire available. The camp has basketball, volleyball, a driving running through it, grills for BBQing, hot showers, clean bathrooms, hiking, and was beautiful.
