#11 Apache - Canvas Safari Platform Tent

This canvas platform tent is a short walking distance up the hill but it is a hill and the farthest away from the lodge and most love it since it is very private.  This requires transporting your equipment in the carts provided.  This site has a  10x12 tent and features openings on both ends with mosquito netting .  The tent features 2 individual cots and bunk bed cots. There is space for a small additional tent.  Each camp spot has its own picnic table and a propane fire pit.  Propane canisters are available on site for rent. Many like this site since it is very private and set off by itself.

Reservation considerations.  We require a 3 night minimum for the major holidays - Memorial Day, 4th of July land Labor Day.  Beginning in the 2020 season we do not do checkins on Sunday.  However, if you are on site and want to extend over Sunday night all you have to do is let us know in advance or during your stay.  Due to COVID many of our weddings were postponed into 2021 so many weekends during May, June, September and October are not available for camping.  So if one weekend is booked looked to another weekend or you might consider a mid-week - Monday - Thursday visit.

This is a family private owned small campground (16 sites only) located on the outskirts of Placerville. The property features 86.5 secluded Tahoe like acres with beautiful year-round Weber Creek. The camp sites are placed along the creek or the bluff overlooking the creek. We have traditional dirt camping, platforms with canvas tents and glamping tents for those that want the comforts of home. Our hallmark is our family teepee! We are all about tent camping – we do not allow travel trailers, campers or van camping.

Now that we have a season under our belts we’ve been told that we have a “family camp” vibe.We are a great place for families wanting a safe environment for their kids but also several group sites for those that want to hang out together. We are also a great base site for those wilderness enthusiasts with access to all the El Dorado National Forest including Desolation but want a hot shower at the end of the day.Tahoe is less than an hour away.We are dog friendly and love our pets but absolutely enforce leash laws to protect your pet as well as the other campers.Due to the nature of our mixed audience camp we also enforce our quiet period from 10 pm to 7 AM.

We have a lodge that is stocked with game tables and every game imaginable along with a ping pong table. The lodge has a Keurig machine and a hot water kettle for those hot drinks (BYO Cups). We have several tables set up for those that want to eat inside as well as multiple picnic tables along the side of the lodge with overhead protection. We’ve been told that our bathrooms are the “cleanest” ever and have changing tables and diaper pails. The showers are nice and cleaned daily.

For outdoor activities we have basketball, volley ball and cornhole not to mention the playground with swing sets, seesaw and tractor play.We also have many outdoor games for meadow play including a tug-a-war rope, gunny sacks, baseballs, gloves and a soccer net.We have hiking trails throughout the property. Our highlight is a camp fire bowl with bench seating with a stage to display camper talent which is perfect for the evening fire and roasting s’mores. We treat our guests to s’mores each Saturday and Tuesday nights! The common area has BBQs – both propane and charcoal as well as a cooking griddle (we also adding a campfire pit in the campfire bowl area for charcoal dutch oven cooking). We are in the wilderness so we have a cool room to store all food at night – yes bears live in the wilderness.

The Creek starts out in the spring looking like a rushing river featuring lots of swimming holes and fishing. However, as the summer evolves it is more of a small creek even though we do dam a portion of it (goes up memorial day weekend and down after labor day) for those that want to use the floating devices we provide (starts out 6 feet and ends up closer to 3 feet). We do not allow individual campfires but have propane fire pits at our glamping sites and group camp sites for ambience – not cooking (glamping sites we provide one propane tank – group sites propane available for purchase).

We are located in the foothills so we are a short hop to many local attractions that include river rafting, gold mines, wineries and historic towns with great eating establishments. There’s always something happened in downtown Placerville. To make things nicer for our guests we have the ability to rent a limited number of tents, cots, individual propane fire pits, BBQs, etc. - anything to make it easier for our campers.Come give our location a try – we think you’ll enjoy yourselves.

During COVID-19 restrictions we will honor all state and county ordinances.  We will ensure social distancing and will close certain areas such as the lodge and playground area.  We expect all guests to comply as well.

Wow. Just, wow. My family of 5 booked this last minute, not knowing what to expect and boy were we pleasantly surprised!! Greg was a wonderful host- knowledgeable about the area, helpful and he even did something special for our birthdays!
We had a blast swimming in the creek, hiking, playing ping pong and checking out the quaint downtown in placerville.
We are already plotting our next getaway to Camp Nauvoo. :)

Our family absolutely loved Camp Nauvoo. Greg was the most amicable host, checked in throughout the weekend to make sure we had all we needed, and thought of all the special extra things - board games in the lodge, s'mores at a campfire, popsicles on a hot day. The creek provided hours of exploring, the canvas tent platform was magical to sleep in at night - owls calling to each other in the dark was our favorite feature. The hammock by the creek was a close second. The whole environment was so serene, and friendly (we met other campers, and new dogs!). We had been craving some special family time, and this was a perfect place to find it. We all wanted to stay longer, and hope to come back. Thank you so much!

Camp Nauvoo is a fantastic spot for families with kids: the creek provides endless entertainment and swimming, the forest is lovely and alive with birdsong, the field is a great spot to run around, and there are even swings and ball courts. Also, it's quiet at night and propane fire pits in the sites prevent lots of small, smoky fires from smoking out the valley. It's perfect! Site #11 is super private--we'll definitely be back!

We stayed at campsite #11, which is described as a more private site providing a wooden platform with a canvas tent. The site itself met our expectations; however, I would recommend that the picnic table be moved to a more balanced area. It currently sits on a slope, which made it a bit uncomfortable for sitting and cooking.

Otherwise, we thought the facilities were great - ping pong, lots of board games, and hot showers, hey! What's not to like. Also, there is a nice hiking trail that starts near site #11. One part of the trail requires you to ascend and descend using ropes - that was kind of exciting. All in all, I can definitely see the appeal of Camp Nauvoo for a family with kids or a large group. There's just enough "roughing it" with the comforts of a clean bathroom and an inside area for refuge from the heat.

Lastly, Camp Nauvoo is pretty close to downtown Placerville (or is this "Old Placerville"?) so you can take a quick trip into town for an ice cream, or food if you don't feel like cooking.

Thanks, Greg & Laurie!

This was such a cool place. We stayed in a mini glamping tent which has a 10’ x 12’ canvas tent set up on a wood floor. It has mosquito net doors and windows which are great at keeping the tent cool. #11 was up the hill and in a great spot. The whole place is great for kids as well as adults. The stream is great to float in. There are first come first serve barbecues at the lodge and even a flat top gas grill which is great for pancakes. The lodge has ping pong and a bunch of board games. There is a playground for the kids. It’s about the closest thing you can get to summer camp. We loved it.

I think we’ve found our annual camping spot! This place is a hidden gem. Perfect for families with kids. We were able to do an awesome hike to go blackberry picking, enjoyed a swimming hole, played indoor/outdoor games, went fishing and enjoyed campfire s’mores, all in one day. Greg was an awesome host!

The site was very private and far enough from the main area (lodge/bathrooms/lake). It is a bit of a walk up two small hills so transporting the equipment was a struggle (more so going up than downward). We needed two people to pull and push a wagon.

The tent had a bunk cot and 2 single cots. We were able to fit a twin sized aerobed in the middle. My two boys (ages 9 and 11) were also able to sleep in the middle on twin air mats. The 6 of us fit comfortably in the tent. You can also pitch a 2 person tent outside

Tent had a mosquito net and a "black out" curtain so it was nice and dark inside.

There was a picnic table outside and a trail behind the tent. The only downside was that they didn't allow charcoal bbq's. Luckily they provided large propane bbq's at the lodge so you will have to bring your food down and back up.

Hosts Greg and Laurie provided s'mores on Saturday night at the communal firepit. There's also a playground with swings, slide, basketball and volleyball. A small lake for kiddies to swim in (they provide floaties too). Definitely a place for families with young kids. Felt very safe here.

I would def come back to camp here.
