Our first experience with HipCamp was awesome! Bob & Cindy’s directions, campsite notes and recommendations were very thorough. The campsite was as described and better, surrounded by beautiful desert. We enjoyed amazing sunsets, views of the stars and city lights. No noise except coyotes in the distance. The adjacent Tortolita Preserve was a huge bonus... we hiked on the Wild Burro trail and our last morning I hopped over the fence for a trail run. We booked 1 night and stayed 3, traveling with a truck + 23’ trailer (backed from driveway into parking area) and 2 boys (ages 4 and 2) who loved exploring the dessert and riding their bikes around our camp area. We felt completely safe and totally secluded. Bob and Cindy live on the property but their home was across the property in-the-distance. They gave us plenty of space and privacy, meanwhile being available for recommendations or questions. Their welcome chalkboard, notes and table were perfect after a long day driving. From our campsite we explored Saguaro National Park, Tucson, Tombstone and Bisbee. I highly recommend Wild Burro Desert Retreat for dry campers in the Tucson area!

Absolutely exceptional hospitality! We were greeted with such warmth and kindness! Excellent prompt communication too.
The site is spectacular. Surrounded by saguaro cactuses from all sides. Private and quiet. Picnic table (with some lovely welcome goodies provided) by the site. Lots of information about the area was provided as well. Unfortunately we didn't have time to stay and enjoy the area during the day (we were heading to Biosphere 2). This site is definitely conveniently located to lots of Tucson attractions :)
Would love to stay here again one day!

Thank you for the kind words! It was our pleasure and we would love to have you back again some day. Hope you enjoyed your visit to the Biosphere!
This stay was absolutely perfect! We were blown away with our welcome goodie package and how perfect our site was! We’re somewhat novice campers and we’re just excited to open the back of the Jeep up for a nice, quiet, relaxing night of star gazing and hot dog cooking. Bob & Cindy were wonderful hosts, came and greeted us and left us to our own adventure. They were extremely communicative leading up to the stay which made us feel extremely welcomed and safe.
If you’re ever passing by Tucson and need a night to relax, set up camp, see some stars and spend an unforgettable night with your loved ones this is just the place to do it.
10/10 would come back :)

Thank you for taking the time to write up such a thoughtful review! (Even after a long day of travel!) We are delighted that we were able to accommodate you and that you were able to star gaze as you had hoped! We would love to have you back anytime! :)
Located just SW of the Tucson Dove Mountain area, we were able to reserve a spot within a few days of our trip. The single-site camp was located on Host Cindy and Bob’s property and is situated adjacent to hiking and biking trails. It is also located within short driving distance to hundreds of miles of desert riding trails.
The site and trails are situated in typical Sonoran desert format – full of desert greens (Palo verde and Mesquite Trees) and a variety of cactus including the mighty saguaro. It is in decent proximity to the base of the local mountains, so the sunrises and sunsets do not disappoint.
The spot itself felt private even though the site was located right off the well-maintained dirt road. The Host met us at the gate to show us to the site and welcome us to the area. They had trail maps and other tips about activities and amenities.
After a brief introduction we headed to our “home” for the next two nights. A cleverly-crafted and personalized welcome sign greeted us as we entered the all-dirt cul-da-sac: Welcome Melissa and Family.
The site was cleanly graded and generous in size. It easily fit our F250+, Camper, and a 4-seater RZR. It would have likely fit another vehicle and trailer (but mind the site capacity limits!)
There was a wooden picnic table carefully set with a horseshoe wreath and old metal box full of goodies for the guests. The Hosts even left coloring pages and crayons and snacks for the kids. It had a very nice Bed and Breakfast feel to it. Very suitable to the local population as well as visitors looking for an authentic Tucson desert experience.

Melissa, Thank you for the beautiful review! I look forward to reading the full review on your blog spot! We are happy you and your family were able to enjoy some safe respite time during this challenging time. We would love to have you back anytime! 🌵 😀
Beautiful landscape, very helpful and gracious hosts, very tidy space to put the RV, and even a little welcome box on a picnic table. I've already booked another stay.

Thank you for your kind review, Stan! We enjoyed having you, very much, and we look forward to your next stay. You are always welcomed here!
Wild aburro Desert Retreat was a beautiful and calming stay amongst rich desert foliage, including mature and breath taking saguaro cacti. We loved our stay here, it felt very secluded and private and was tucked away yet not far off the 1-10 freeway which makes it very convenient. Our host were lovely and the picnic bench and items provided for the stay were a perfect touch.

Thank you for your beautiful review! We are grateful you chose our spot for your stay!
If you love the desert this is your spot. You are camped Literally in the middle of the desert surrounded by beautiful native cacti. It is extremely quiet except for the coyotes whose yelps are fantastic. This is going to be our go to spot whenever we are in Tucson.

Thank you, Steven! We are happy you enjoyed your stay with us and we would welcome you back any time! Thanks for being such a wonderful guest!
We loved the quiet spot. Great trail to walk on across the street. Great place for dogs and convenient. Great sunsets and cactus viewing.

We were happy to have you all! Thank you for being great guests! Those sunsets truly are beautiful, aren’t they? We would be happy to have you again!
A very private and safe site. We had tons of fun riding our bikes down to the preserve nearby. We would stay again if we are ever in town. Thanks for great stay! :)

We are happy to hear you had a great stay! We would love to have you back. Thank you!
