Camp Tonkawa Woods & Horse Camp

In the early 1900’s an iconic red barn was built near the hilltop along the road between the old Mt. Zion community and Collinsville. Later in the 1900’s, the land was mostly abandoned by its owners, but not by the local fishermen! They knew its woodland fishing pond never dried up, and so was able to support a better population of fish. They also dumped a cornucopia of old motorcycles, cars and farm equipment in the front field. What else were you supposed to do with scrap metal in North Texas horse country? In 2002 the Holtzman family purchased the 35 acre tract of land. They dug a front pond for swimming and paddling, buried the scrap metal (although occasional bits of history still work their way up!), restored and brought horses back to the barn, and began consulting with local biologists about supporting native wildlife. April Holtzman launched Camp Tonkawa Outdoor Learning Center on the property to provide a beautiful, safe place for families to explore and learn about nature. Camp Tonkawa continues to host overnight and day camps with educational programing organized around various themes including: Native American culture, nature awareness, basic camping skills, primitive survival, organic gardening, herbology, outdoor cooking, western days, and horsemanship. We also host field trips and frequently conduct Girl Scout journeys for all levels in the "It's Your Planet, Love it!" series. Due to Covid-19, which limited working with groups for our educational programing, we joined Hip Camp where families who could isolate in nature together on our property.

Fieldsong Farm

When the sun comes up, you'll have many choices to make--cycling, horseback riding, fishing, boating, paddling, hiking, running, strolling, visiting with the goats, cats and chickens, helping with farm chores, or just sitting to enjoy the peace and serenity of the farm. There are many great shopping and eating choices withing 15 miles. Breakfast will be brought to your campsite for an additional fee, booked in advance. Horse pasture rentals is available, also booked in advance. (We do not offer horseback riding,) Eggs, local honey, seasonal veggies, baked goods artisan food products, goat milk products and firewood are available for sale. No dirt bikes, ATVs or RTVs; no motorcycles except as transportation. No discharge of firearms allowed. No hunting, no bows and arrows, no fireworks. Every camper group or RV group must have at least one person over 21 in the group. We do not have any horses to rent or ride.

Cozy Bell tent located just outside of Trenton on 55 acres of sloping terrain with a wide creek and acreage beyond the Big Oak for exploring. Beautiful sunsets, a clear view of the night sky, a calming creek and an occasional visiting deer make for a relaxing stay. The property is in transition as we are in the process of creating manicured groves and open pasture areas for the enjoyment of our farm animals and guests so expect mud when it rains and an occasional heavy equipment or tractor siting. We rotational graze our livestock between our two properties so they are not always on site. If they are not at The PARK at Brushy Creek, we invite you to come see them at the property with the big green gate across the road. There is no electric or wi-fi on property currently. All lighting is solar, or battery powered. There is water spigot at tent site and a Port-o-let near the tent area. This is the Country we and our neighbors have livestock and dogs that may bleat, bark, oink, moo, neigh, squeal, whinny, bray, or whine anytime day or night. We are located 1-hour North of Dallas Fort Worth, 30 minutes from McKinney, Sherman, or Greenville, 10 miles to Leonard, Whitewright, and Bonham and just five miles from Trenton. Two lakes are in close proximity, Lake Bonham and Lake Texoma.
