Acadia East Campground is a backcountry-style wilderness campground located 10 minutes from Acadia National Park's Schoodic District. The campground has 5 campsites, a vaulted privy, wooded trails, a gravel parking area, and regional information board.

The Thunder Hole Campsite is one of our most private tent campsites. Located about 250 feet up the campground trail from the parking area, the Thunder Hole campsite provides a cozy retreat for 1-2 tents and/or hammocks. The unique campfire pit blends in with the natural surroundings, and the layout of the site is really fun with the natural granite. The site is located about 75 feet from the privy toilet.

Was easy to find the camp location, but we arrived after dark, and it was somewhat difficult to find the Thunderhole site (it is in the far back of the camp). There wasn't a map or any site specific directions. Luckily another camper was able to direct us.

The location is fairly far off the road, but you can hear some car noise. It is private (didn't hear noise from other sites), and has a picnic table and fire pit (with firestarters available and a bucket of water for extinguishing the fire). Overall was a pleasant experience!
